Pneumatic nail gun part question

Today I picked up a couple old Grizzly nail guns for free from a Craigslist seller. He was under the impression they weren’t working, but after a quick cleaning, I found the brad nailer works like new. The finish nailer is a different story and is missing a seal that deteriorated over time. I actually cleaned out a bunch of dust and chunks that used to be a plastic seal.

Since these are so old that I can’t find even a mention of them on YouTube or Amazon, I thought I’d ask here. Does anyone know where I can find replacement parts for a Grizzly G6049 nailer, specifically a seal, part number 13601401? Or maybe someone knows if the same part is available branded as some other manufacturer? I've contacted Grizzly directly and I'm waiting on a response. I expect a whole lot of unhelpful email.

I have photos only of the remains of the seal, so I have no idea what it looks like. The user manual parts list shows only a disc-shaped drawing.

It mounts against this surface (the crud is what's left of the seal):

I would try cutting one out of a pc of rubber. or try an oring

That part seals the bottom of the firing valve to the top of the cylinder. The firing valve moves up and all the stored air outside the top of the cylinder and in the handle quickly pushes the piston down. Without it, the gun will just leak air and do nothing. I have a similar failure on an otherwise very nice Porter Cable 15ga. finish gun with no parts available. Planned obsolescence is a son of a *****.

The metal part in the first photo is the “piston head valve,” but the missing part is referred in the manual and at the link in DFB’s reply as a “seal.” Inside the piston head valve is a part called a piston stopper, but I do have one of those in working condition.

Being its an older Grizzly an thinking wasn't that many major brand names back in the time so some parts may be similar...like with a PC 350 or a Bostich brand tool maybe

I'm assume with that steep magazine your's is possibly a clipped head nailer though

Well, the manual calls it a "14/15 Gauge Angle Finish Nailer."

I've been looking through the other brands on eReplacementParts.com and can't find one that is similar enough that I'd trust a part to fit correctly. Many have a part that is almost right, but of course none of them have any measurements that would help me in any way. And while the other internals may be close, they aren't close enough to have been manufactured in the same factory.

Going by the other brands, the part is probably nylon and works as a bumper and seal against the top of the piston cylinder.

So frustrating. I know these were free, but I hate to throw out a tool just because I can't find a small replacement part.

I understand your frustration and could involve some trial error at least those o ring/seal parts aren't overly expensive.

I might also suggest you actually call E Replacments and ask if the can give you specific measurements on certain parts you are interested in. They do try to assist the customer extremely well. I use them often only good things to say

I don't know. Is that seal 21mm or 2.1" in diameter? I can't tell from their picture. Anyway, the link for "tools that use this part" takes me here:

Other than the paint color, that looks awfully similar to yours. Even the parts diagram looks to be a copy, with the piston head valve seal being #14 in both.

That looks like a good bet, I'd try it anyway. Grizzly, at that time, didn't make their own tools, they were "purveyors of fine machinery" or so it is written on my Grizzly bandsaw made in 1999.

An update for anyone interested: the part that rlitman found arrived today and it did fit with some effort. It’s not soft rubber, nor is it hard plastic, so it did have a little give as I pressed it onto the assembly inside the nailer. Once it was on, it looks like it belongs there, if slightly pooched out around the base. But the rest of it goes into the grooves and surfaces that it’s supposed to and it seems to work perfectly. I was waiting to buy nails until after this thing arrived, but I’m confident it’s fixed. Thanks to all who chimed in!
