Pneumatic Tool Kits...Worth it??

Hello, I recently purchased a new Puma 60g compressor. I'm looking to just buy a few tools to get my started. Like a impact, die grinder and ratchet.

I'm not looking for something that's going to be mind blowing good. Just something that'll get me by for a while until I acquire some better tools. So, I've been looking at the tool kits like Northern Tool and HD sell. Are these any better then the plastic box they come in, or can a guy get some use out of them and be somewhat happy with them?

Get a harbor freight earthquake impact. I like their die grinders too. Cheap, but use lots of air. I have no complaints. I have one of their air ratchets as well.

I should have plenty of CFM, I have 12 at 90psi. I'll have to check out HF. There tools seem to be really big hits or big duds.

Don't do it... my dad has an old Northern Industrial set he bought probably 10 years ago and there is nothing in that set worth using in my opinion. The impact in his set wouldn't take off a lug nut on a Honda Civic, while my 1/2" Earthquake had no problem taking off the 36MM axle nut on that same Civic that had 170k miles (axle nut had never been touch previously). Shop around for good deals and you will be much happier.

avoid the kits... I'm not saying avoid if possible, I'm saying avoid... period.

Much better tools come solo.

if you are not using them every day then anything cheap will do. but if you start using them every day then look into ingersoll rand tools, and if you go to parts stores and the like, you will find relabled ingersoll rand tools cheaper there.

Buy a good 1/2 impact gun instead and then buy the rest separately as you need them or find good deals. I have the ingersoll rand 1/2 edge series composite gun and it is awesome for the price( I paid 149.99 Canadian for it and a 3/8 drill in a package). But I believe in the USA it is on sale regularly for under 100 which would be damn hard to best unless you bought used.

Your spending more money in the long run. Cheap impacts will just make you mad. If anything buy username brand, they can always be rebuilt. Buy once, not twice

Thanks for the info guys. I was under the impression that the kits weren't that great. But just wanted some more opinions.

I see that Home Depot is doing their 50% off sale on pneumatics again until the end of Aug. So, I'll maybe pick up a few tools that way.

Never seen a usefull tool in one one those kits.Buy the good rated hf earthquake......and some of their cheap die grinders. I mostly use my cheap diegrinders since its for automotive work thats not detail work. They hold up well if oiled. Dont bother on a cheap air hammer. Thats the one thing that you can spend 50 bucks on and have it not do a thing.

The tool kits are worthless typically. If u want cheap stuff that works just buy hf stuff.

I am not rebuilding my good impacts, when they are worn out I am going to replace with another CP bought from sale at the auto parts or internet.
I got to agree with the general opinion that the units in the kits are lame especially when this is pretty well researched and guys got a lot of experience with models listed in the posts above. Its not like you got to spend in the 1000's here to get good to best. For 75 more can get a good tool a hobby guy cant wear out.
