Howdy all,

It’s time to start on my ’69 Lincoln and I’m looking at options to get it up in the air a bit.

I’ve read most of the archives about jack stands, but I’m looking for something a little more stable and permanent. My Lincoln weighs in at roughly 5800lbs dry and I really don’t want to wear it while I’m home alone.

Anybody familiar with car ramps that have the angle ramp part removable? I’m not quite sure how to describe it, but I’ll try to add a pic. I figger I can drive up on the fronts, pull the sloped part, lift the rear with a floor jack then put a pair under the rears. If I need to pull a tire, I can lift it up with a floor jack and put a jack stand under the frame.

Any ideas? Anybody out there use them or familiar? I don’t need a lift because once it’s up in the air it’s going to be there for a while.

Any and all opinions appreciated!

Scott

Outside of a truck I don't know what would actually drive up a ramp that steep. I gave some thought to using a floorjack and sliding the wheel parts under, but I'm not sure it buys you anything over using jack stands.

When I was a kid, saving a few bucks and finding a cheap way to squeeze under the car and get the job done seemed smart. Now I am a lot more concerned about being able to work the next day without looking 90 years old. If it costs too much to make the car both safe and easy to work on, it goes to a mechanic.
