Pocket hole tool?

Hey guys, just wondering what everyone uses to drill pocket holes? Looking to get a jig, and wondering if the Kreg, is the tool of choice, or if there is a better alternative?

I was looking it up, and i came across these ones on ebay, and on paper these seemed pretty good...they are all aluminum... whereas the kreg's case is made of some kind of plastic...

It is also a bit cheaper (doesn't really matter to me), i was wondering if anyone tried or used any of these all aluminum jigs. I am thinking the all aluminum jigs might be more durable than the plastic kreg jigs...

I have the kreg setup and it's nice. It's a bit of a one trick pony for me though and I rarely use it.

I've used the kreg on the cabinets I made for my garage. I've always sucked at making stuff out of wood but after a neighbor showed me how to use the kreg(and his table saw) I was making cabinets like a pro(well in my mind anyway). I'm already planning on making a few more. That jig on ebay looks like a rip off of the kreg. It's hard to say which is the better tool without seeing it in person to compare it. I'm surprised they can sell that thing without some kind of copyright infringement. I'd recommend going with the kreg just because I'm not one to reward people for ripping off other people's good ideas.

Enco make this one, which has been completely adequate, and is more portable and adjustable than the bench mount versions of the Kreig. I also **** the 2 piece cutter that came with it, as the pilot drill is replaceable (and that has snapped on me several times...). I do a lot of "in place" pocket joints so the portability is a nice feature, as is the ability to have any spacing I want.

Is there any clamp to secure it to the wood, that comes with it? I checked the website, and didn't notice a clamp, that didn't come with it

I have the above model of Enco jig and have "hand held" it with no problems. I also have a few Kreg jigs. Both work well.

+57 for kreg. It's not at a HF price, but it's made in the US. I have the one with the vacuum hose fitting which is a must for me as it makes a huge mess w/o it. Yes, it's plastic, but has hardened inserts cast in place so it's not like the plastic body negatively affects the function.

Could you share with me the model or kit that you have? I can't seem to come across one that has a connection for vacuum hose.

I have both the Kreg mini....portable and cheaper then the full Kreg. I wouldn't go with the cheaper no name pocket screw jigs. I have used the cheap one from HD. It says nothing about screw depth for the thickness off wood like the Kreg. They aren't as easy to use when working a project with different sized pieces.

Alright, great...i guess that's fixed...i'm going with the kreg

I got a chance to try the Porter Cable jig..it was pretty amazing...however considering what i am using it for, it might be a bit overkill...but it was reallyyyy nice. Maybe if i ever start taking on more woodworking projects, i would upgrade to it.
