Just curious, why is it necessary to reverse the polarity when going from flux core to solid wire/MIG?

The gasless flux core wires need to generate more heat in the wire in order to melt the flux, so they run on electrode negative or "straight" polarity. The solid wires need much less heat to sustain a puddle, but more heat in the base metal in order to get good fusion, so they run on electrode positive or "reverse" polarity.
