Pole barn budget flooring?

Hey new to the site. I built a 16x36 pole barn and I am looking at flooring options. Barn is mainly used for storage, I don't do any ******** mechanical stuff. I can't really afford concrete at the moment. Is their any better options. I was thinking crushed concrete or asphault compacted really well could do the job. Moles are currently building a resort community in it so I would like to do something asap.

I was figuring removing 4 inches of dirt and doing 6 inches of the crushed concrete or whatnot.

I have about 60ft from the end of my driveway to the barn so I was looking at extending my driveway to the barn.

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to GarageJournal.

That's a good looking building. You did a great job.

Your idea for removing the soil and using crushed concrete is a good plan.

Good luck.

Thanks. My first time building something like this. I'm still amazed it has not fell over yet... lol

I'm thinking maybe next year adding a little lean to on the side.

Does anyone have any other ideas. I've never seen a barn with crushed asphalt in it. Just looking for low cost ideas. Just want something that will hold up well and keep the critters out.

Over here you can get crushed concrete with a little cement added, when compacted down the cement will react with ambient moisture and lock the crushed concrete together - not as good as proper concrete but better than gravel alone. If you're in an arid area then you can 'water' it to add the required moisture.

Also leaves a decent base for a future concrete pour.

Have you priced concrete for your garage? A 4" thick concrete floor for your garage would be approx. 7.5 cubic yards. My last cost here in NEOhio was $105 a yard. What will the other inexpensive floors cost? Just saying you might be further ahead by doing this once and be done with it. Good luck.

If you are concerned about moles, one thing you could do is pour a rat wall between the posts. Once that is done, fill in the space with your choice of aggregate till you're ready to pour the concrete. When you're ready, you already have a edge to form against and screed along.

Like Rburke mentioned, what is the cost of your fill going to be ? Fill is usually cheap if you can do it and haul it. Once you start having it trucked in, the cost is going up. I'd compare all costs before you make a decision.
