Pole barn build questions

Hey guys, first off Hello! im new to the board but have been doing alot of lurking. Im in the process of putting together a 24x24 pole barn and have some questions that havent quite been answered by my local lumber yards
So..
Im going 8' on center for my posts (except the garage door opening)
also going 8' on center with my trusses so they will set right on top of the posts
sound ok so far?
my big question for my 2x12 headers do they need to be treated or not?
Purlins and wall girts are going to be 2x6's is this overkill? should i do 2x4? and do these need to be treated?

Structural issues depend on where you are located. Wind and snow loads change everything.

I have the same setup, Northern Indiana, lots of wind and snow, no issues.
Mine was built professionally with experienced builders that only build pole barns. Here is a pic so you can see what I have.

If you are putting the trusses on the poles s 2x12 header isn't needed. Unless your talking over the garage door. And treated is only needed if its touching the ground

my dads is 8 foot centers in northern indiana.

It was built in the 70s and is still standing.

Mines ten foot centers the same as pictured above by Arps. If it's not touching the ground it won't need to be treated. I've got 2x6 girts.

Pretty sure just 2x4, but I dont recall for sure.

Well Broke Ground today, Bought all my lumber (im sure there will be some stuff i missed) got a killer deal on all the lumber and trusses, just shy of $1100 b/c of a killer sale at sutherlands! Also got a good deal on metal, gotta go pick it up, to finish it up with all metal 29g g rib $1350, now i gotta figure out where to get my 16x8 or 9' garage door pictures to come

I Might be too late, but here goes.....if the door header is on a load-bearing wall I would recommend micro-lam beams, expensive and heavy, but worth every penny. Just my 2 cents.

just called me at the lumber yard, trusses are gonna be 2 weeks behind
just wondering in the mean time would i be ok to set poles and wrap the header, wall girts and skirtboard and let the frame sit for 2 weeks exposed? never done it before so i really dont know

Around here all the pole barn builders sandwich the top of the post with 2x6s to set the trusses on. It gives more surface to distribute the load of the trusses.

We just finished a barn before winter and did the same thing. Trusses are 2ft centers though. We're in a subdivision so we have to put siding and shingles to match the house. 2x4 wall perlins, But im pretty sure we used 2x10s to set the trusses on. If you need some pics let me know.

D-Man, those post don't look sandwiched between headers in those pics. Did you do it after the pics?

Might be too late but pole building lumber should be southern yellow pine, not white pine. If you bought a "package" that is probably already done. My trusses were let into the side of the posts.

Southern yellow is about twice as strong as framing lumber.

I think he has 2 headers but bolted to the outside. The headers also could be notched into the post on the outside. There are many way to pit headers on and it really depends on your truss and roof load how its built.

If the trusses are over the poles headers aren't needed because the load will be directly on the poles

Ya the inside header was put up after those pics. Just didn't have one on my phone.

Another question i have before i set the posts where the garage door will go between, im doing a 16' wide garage door, so do i set the posts with exactly a 16' space between ? Or doesit need more or less?

That will be fine. Or you could add 3inch and 2x6 on both sides like jack studs. Really depends on how you want to do it and if it's load bearing

Gable end so i dont think its load bearing, now im trying to figure out how much metal i need, i jumped in over my head lol, oh well its a learning experience i guess

Just got a call from a buddy, he disassembled a 30' x56' pole barn last week, comes with everything but the posts $1000 :[
I thought about buying it just for the metal to side my barn, says its all in good shape and its 10' eve's so its perfect size, what are your guys opinions?

essentially what im getting at is, my corner posts are set for 24'x24' right now and the 16' gable end garage door posts are set, nothing else
im thinking about turning what i already have started into a 30x 40, any thoughts or ideas? the trusses are 30' that comes with the building that was disassembled so my garage door wont be centered anymore if i add that 6 feet to one side, think that will look goofy?

Well i had a whole day with my dad to work on it yesterday, we managed to get everything but the header and all the purlins on up top, ended up going 4' OC for the trusses so plans changed a little bit, everythingis in the yard waiting to be put on
