General vague question.
Is it out of the norm for home owner to request building plans for pole barn im having built.
I live in the county but opting to go the permit and inspection route due to keep the builder in check. Only $150 for the city but builder says be $600 to install parts the county we want as extra. Straps and footer cookies or concrete cost.
Builder has told me truss on 4' centers and 6x6 post are on 8' centers.
Holes be 5' deep with footer bottom of hole and 4' of post in ground.
Perlins on 2' center.
Builder said he was Getting specs from truss company on wind loads and snow loads.
Inspector told me that builder just has to follow state codes section R327 for pole barn structures.
Sent builder pdf and told him this is what inspector wants.
I built the site plan and survey paper work and utlity paper work and my permit application.
Now no response from builder.

I'd certainly want a set of "as built" plans just for future reference.

He's (your builder) thinking "it's a pole barn man, I already told this guy the post installation, post- truss- purlin spacing..... and he's going to cost me time with inspections and scheduling them.... and this is even before I started, I got better jobs on my long list of jobs just waiting for ME!"

I don't know about your area but where I'm at its hard to get contractors to show up when they say going to show up. Sounds like your choice builder has moved on. Right now work is good so guess he does not have time to walk, he wants to hit job running. If you hold money then your in charge, but if you feel uneasy maybe find someone else

Every contractor i have talk to are real busy.
I dont know where everybody all of sudden is getting all this money. I firgured died down after so busy last year.
Might have to wait till next year and see if prices go down on materials.

I am also having to wait but due to material cost, which it is dropping some. I'm not at 100% doing Pole Barn yet but if I do I will be acting as general contractor, doing some of the work myself and finding others to do such as concrete work. Its just dang expensive including labor. But it may be cause where I'll be is a small town that everyone knows each other and their prices are all about same.

Daddydave, I'm glad you didn't take it the wrong way 👍it was not intended as sarcasm.
A lot of people don't realize that many "pole buildings" are really a week long process srart to finish for an experienced, organized builder and are VERY basic construction. This is a large part of the economy of "post frame" building. "Messing with the recipe" will add cost or send a builder the message to skip this one.
I do understand your concerns and the best advice I can offer is to simply visit the building he's currently wrapping up and talk about any concerns that you may have right there. Somewhere in the conversation you'll say.... "so this is the way it will be on my building? "

I agree with this, however I don't blame the OP in the slightest for the additional plans, and adjustments to meet local code. I did the "week long process" method. I didn't get any type of plan other than a pen drawing on a file folder. In fact, door location was determined essentially the day of construction, between me and the Amish fellas that built it. If I could do it all over again, I'd love to have some type of drawing, with some additional specs etc. All of that said, I'm completely pleased with my building, with only a few small things I'd change if I could do it over.

In 2017 when I shopped for my pole barn I received any set of plans I wanted. After signing the contract, I obtained the permit from the county and the inspectors only visit with contractor was morning of day one to inspect footings. The barn was completed (minus cement) within 3 days of breaking ground. 30x40x12' with 9x40' lean to ($17k).
