Getting ready to build my new garage(?).

It will be a 40 x 60 pole barn. I haven't decided whether to just hire someone and have it done turn key or act as my own GC and control every aspect of the build.

I live in Lampasas County, Texas just outside of Copperas Cove, so no permits are required which makes it a good thing, if you read my thread about building inspections.

So I am soliciting some advice from those who have done this either in or out of Texas.

Who is available in Central Texas for turn key and/or where to get the building materials. Buy them individually or as a kit form?

Thanks

Pole barn or all steel? I pretty much did a self contracted 40x60 with 40x15 lean too. Purchased the building from Mueller Steel buildings in Spicewood. Hired the concrete guy (from Lampasas) and hired the welder from Johnson City.

Here is who I had build mine in central missouri(40x60 w/15x60 lean-to). Did a great job and was by far the cheapest. I could not buy the materials locally for what they wanted to build it for.

I did a 36x48 recently and the cost to have it erected by the vendor about equalled what I had to spend on help and rented equipment. Difference is that it took us 4 months to do the job that they would have done in a week. Next time I will have them do it. Don't discount the pain from moving some heavy stuff, and the weeks of a sore body, and the price of mistakes.

Pole barn. I had thought of Mueller but didn't know if they could funish the wood.

Yeah that's what I was thinking when I posted this up.

Thanks, I'll check them out. I have noticed a lot of builders have a specific area and they stay in it.

Thanks

I hired a contractor to build from scratch a 28 x 36 metal building. He did the pad and the structure. I did the electrical. Make sure you get some references and that who ever you get can use a level. Think about having the pad slope slightly toward center of the building and out the garage door.

Who was your concrete guy in Lampasas, contact info? Good work and would you recommend?

Thanks

The guy is Tim and his son is Wade.512-525-4400. Tim lives in Lampasas his son down toward Austin. They do cement work all over this area. I highly recommend them. They did my slab and also flat work for the drive. I will be using them again in the future. Buddy of mine at work (cedar park) here is also going to use them for his garage. Tell them Jim in Dripping recommended them. Keep us posted with your build.

Thanks Nighttrain, I'll definately give them a call.

MontessaJ,

The world is getting smaller, LOL

I called Rob-Bilt the same ones 53 Driver used. The estimate lttle over 14000.00 installed on my level pad. Then today they sent me an email worth a .10-.15 cent per square foot discount depending on if the metal is galvalume or paint respectively.

I also have an estimate from BCI and they were 1800.00 higher and didn't include the rat guard, plus the purlins were on a 26 in center instead of 24 in. Minor but there it is.
