Pole Barn Camp...

So, we have had this dream for a number of years....a camp (or lake house) somewhere we could eventually retire. We wanted to start and pay for this before we get to retirement age. It is a 30x56x14 pole barn with sissor trusses in the living sq ft so we could get a loft over the bedrooms and have a high ceiling in the living area. The living area is 30x40 and the garage is 16x30 with a 12' wide by 10' tall roll up door, regular trusses in garage area. All cash so we are slow going...these pics are over about 4 months not counting removing trees and preparing the pad.

Thanks guys! It has been a rather smooth process so far!

Now lets see...it is a 6/12 pitch roof, the black stuff on the bottom of the post are pole protectors or sleeves made of PVC plastic, and this is in Louisiana on Toledo Bend. I do have plans to screen in (and maybe use plexi glass panels to heat and cool when needed) one corner of the deck around 16 x 12 area

Thanks! I have been lurking here and using the search funciton for a while. I have ideas on how to outfit the garage portion of this build (all taken from here of course), but that will have to wait until I make the living portion livable. I know it will have 220v in the garage so I can use my welder and other tools. It will also have some sort of storage loft in it.

I should have some more pics after this weekend. Happy Father's day to all the Dads.

Well, its been quite a while since I last posted so I thought I would share some more progress pics in case anyone was interested. This has been a slow build due to paying cash and doing the work myself.

oh yeah! A couple of the garage with my helper........hopefully some sort of storage loft is in the near future. I'll have to measure for the loft with my boat in there.

Only piece of furniture is a recliner SWEET! Only piece in my garage loft is my Moms old recliner. I was just sitting in it for a bit this afternoon.

My sister-in-law's parents built a house inside a steel shop-type building. It's a two-story home. With the shop's insulation, and shading, and the home's insulation, the place is dead quiet inside, and a single fireplace can quickly make the place too warm to enjoy. Looks like a regular steel building from the outside. They store their cars, tractors trailers and hot tub in the shop part of the building. It's a great idea.

I agree that I wasn't sure exactly how it would turn out, but I'm proud of the results so far.

I considered that very concept, but I needed to be able to have some time to do the plumbing under the slab myself. Since I am not a pro I needed the external walls so I could put the pipes in the correct place before the concrete was poured. Another reason was that it's easier (in my opinion) to frame up the inside of a pole barn than a metal framed building. I would not consider doing this without using spray foam insulation, this seams to be the secret to turning a metal skinned building into a "home".

Thanks for the kind words! I have cabinets left to do then finish the floor in the living area and hall. Hope I have some money left for fruniture!!! Then I have to build a storage loft in the garage, build a screened in secton of the back porch, build a boat dock, then build a separate workshop.............etc. never ends
