Hey guys I have a 36x46 pole building I want to get the floor done finally after almost 3 years now. I would like to go 6” thick and it has 3 overhead doors. Well anyhow I had my first guy come today for an estimate and he just texted me the quote at $20,000!! Am I crazy or is that estimate ridiculous? This was for him to bring in and compact the base/fill (needs to come up about 4-5”) and do 6” of 4000 psi with wire. No fiberglass mesh or rebar mentioned, and finished by hand as he says he doesn’t do power trowel finishing. I don’t know I’m shell shocked right now lol. I was thinking/hoping this job to be about 8-9k.... am I just way off??? I remember when I was having my building done the estimate (at the time was for a 30x40) had an option of like 6000-6500 for a power troweled 4” thick fiberglass mesh floor done! I don’t know, I don’t get it, what’s your guys experiences getting a floor done??

1656 Sq ft of floor as described is approx 31 yards of concrete, probably more with a thickened edge around the outer edges. Don’t forget the cost of fill for the base as it will be about the same amount.

The price will depend on your area and the costs of materials. Concrete work will vary A LOT based on location. Get a few more estimates and see what they say.

One thing to keep in mind, prep for the base will be a little more work at this point since the building is up and it has to come up considerably. Around here the order for the build would be: site is prepped and within about an inch or two of final grade, the building is put up, grade is then checked and finalized, floor gets poured.

For a similar sized floor in my area you would get estimates from 12k-20k.

Also, In my area it seems that construction costs seemed to have gone up considerably in the last few years.

I would get some additional prices. As has been mentioned, prices vary and costs are rising but my cost expectations would have been pretty close to yours. Good luck. Hopefully you can get that nice smooth concrete floor you want.

Btw, you don’t want some knucklehead that doesn’t believe in power trowels anyway. Lol

Just for reference, last year I did a 4" 30'x40' pole barn with a 40'x8' porch and a 30'X16' apron for just under 10k. That included a lot of fill. I'm in Western NY. I was almost 16" off the ground on one side of the structure.

Thanks guys sorry I didn’t respond to any of you yesterday. I did actually speak to another guy yesterday, over the phone I gave him as many details as I could and he said if I paid cash (which I planned on anyhow) he would do the job 6” is thick, 4000psi fiberglass reinforced for 10,500. He is coming today after work to look at it and said he might be able to go lower once he sees it, not that I’m at all trying to sacrifice quality for a lesser cost.

B-boy your experience sounds right on track to what I’m hoping for. Was there any rebar or wire put in yours? This guy didn’t mention that at all but I think I’d like to mention I’d like to have at least wire put in, we’ll see.

Again thank you guys for your responses you’ve definitely made me feel a little better about going forward. Haha still just can’t get over the first guys number ****♂️

I just had a 40X60 done 4" thick. It was supposed to have wire but he switched to fiber the morning of the pour without my approval. Hiring this guy was my biggest mistake he came highly recommended but it was one mess after another. Now about a month later when I sweep the floor the smooth surface comes right off. I paid just shy of $7000, someday it will cost me to rip all this out and have it done right but for now I just have to save up the cash and live with a crappy floor. My advice is to request to see prior work they have done and be sure to get a good written contract.
