Pole Barn Construction timing

Hello,

I wanted to ask others experiences who are waiting on a pole barn to be built. I signed a contract with a builder in December to have a 36x48 pole barn built. I’m really excited for it, I moved to my current location 3 years ago leaving the same size shop behind with no replacement.

Anyways, I’m in upstate New York in the fingerlakes region. I got my permit about a month and a half after signing the contract, most of the time was waiting on the prints and the companies insurance info to submit for the permit. I got my site prep done.

Due to COVID construction companies doing non essential buildings closed in mid March. At that time I was on the schedule for April 20th. My area started reopening on May 15th. Initially I was told late June and the company was trying to get additional contractors to help move things along faster. When that date got closer I asked for an update. I learned I got bumped out to July 20th. End of June seemed logical as I was about four weeks out on the schedule before shut downs.

Just curious if others are experiencing the same?

I have no experience other than asking questions from guys who has that experience. Post some pics would love to see start to finish. I have read in others post that once contractor starts that it don't take long.

I went under contract in October for mine, with a late February/early March start date. Mine just got finished the first week of June. Once they started, it only took a couple weeks.

Parents are getting ready to pull the trigger on a 24x32 with porch. They are out a short bit as well. People are spending money and buying stuff around here, guys are busy if they want to be.

I've been waiting for my dump trailer to come in for a month.

I had a guy lined up to do site prep (need about 80 yards of fill). Don't know if he's making more on unemployment than he was as a contractor or what, but he's ghosted me.

I've called over 20 places now and have only gotten 2 quotes. One from a gravel pit that has a crew available, but won't give me timing for when they can deliver materials ("We're working 6 days a week"). The other guy hopefully starts Tuesday.

When there is no incentive to work, IMHO, very little will get done.

With this COVID stuff, I would expect intelligent people to watch our for themselves, even if it means passing up some income.

Or

I’m in construction and we’ve had some major issues acquiring certain types of products because of tier 2 / 3 plants shut down and our suppliers can’t source specific materials

Thanks everyone for the replies. Wouldn’t be a surprise if they had some supply issues too. I’m excited to make it a few more weeks and get the building started.

I ordered my building in December. I was a custom design so they submitted permit requests in early March. Then covid. Got issued permit in June. Now builder say's I'm scheduled for January.

I'm in the middle of site prep. Just found out retaining wall block is 6 weeks out.
