All,

My pole barn slab gets poured next week. I want to stub in for future shower/toilet/sink. This will all be against an outside wall. I've searched but can't quite find what I'm looking for. My question is the floor connections that I want to pour over. I would like to stub in a 4" line for the toilet connection then put a board or something over it and pour a thin layer of concrete over it. This way I can put it in at a later date. I will have vent tee's hat come up through the wall to vent the different items. Same thing with the shower. I will put in a 2" horizontal/sloped shower drain line to the edge of the slab and cap it (18" under ground).

My questions: I've asked plumbers and get different answers.

On the shower: do I just do the horizontal/sloped pipe and then fill a box with sand or rocks to put the p trap in at a later date, or do I stub in the p trap and cap it and put a board over it so I can then pour over it? (both of these were comments from plumbers).

Toilet: I plan on stubbing a 4" line. How far under the surface should I stop it, or how thick should the concrete be over it? What did you use to cover the line or hole?

Thanks for your help. Lost and lots of info out there to finish the plumbing out now. Just can't find it for future (could be a loooong time).

if you know where you want them, just stub them up and cap them off.

if you don't want them poking up thru the concrete then I guess you'd just run everything to a 'box' with a plywood top flush with the concrete or an inch or two below the top of the concrete to cover over (assuming this is an area of just foot traffic)

take pictures and measurements

sometimes with pole barns finishing the inside walls is tricky so you won't know exact location for the toilet, so maybe a 'box' would be best

at least you're thinking ahead, that's half the battle

Yep, BB has it right...

I would build a box around the shower drain stub with gravel in it so the trap can installed later.

I would stub up the toilet drain pipe and cut it flush to the expected floor height. Glue a PVC push " Penny" plug in it and put some duct tape over it for a back up seal. . Then, slide a piece of black foam insulation around it to where the concrete cannot be poured any tighter to the pipe that 1/2". This keeps the plumber from having to chisel out concrete away from the drain pipe later, when he slips the floor flange ring down over the pipe and anchors it. He will use a inside cutter to cut the pipe the right length for his toilet flange.

Take pics of your UG pipe work and draw a sketch with EXACT measurements of where your stub ups will be. I have seen contractors get busy and bury pipe stubs enough to where even "pecking" on the floor while looking for hollow spots (pipe stub ups) , they were hard to find. JMO
