I have a 40x72x14 pole barn. I am going to put up a divider wall to split the barn into a work shop & storage area. I am also planning to build a room (20 X26) to keep my show car and boat in. At the back of this room, I would like to build a storage loft 6' deep, x 20 feet wide. I plan to finish all the interior with steel liner panels. My questions are how to frame up the divider walls. Being that I need to run horizontal runners to attach the liner panels to, what kind of spacing should I use between studs? Could I use 2x4 studs, spaced 4' apart, then attach horizontal 2x4 runners at 2' OC?

For supporting the loft, my plan was to frame up the walls in that area with 2x4 studs 16" oc, run a 2x8 ledger board, with 2x4 jack studs. Then using engineered I joists 16" oc for the 20' span.

Loft will contain light storage loads, car parts (body panels, interior parts, etc) and boating supplies (ski's, life vests, etc)

Does this make sense? my biggest concern is support the loft. Can that be handled with 2x4 studs with a ledger board and jack studs?

I have tried to attach a drawing.
