Pole barn house insurance

I recently had a pole barn built and just converted part of it into living quarters. I consider it a home with a big garage for my toys. My insurance company does not want to give me homeowners insurance. They're quoting a building policy and then a tenant policy. premiums are ridiculous for the coverage amount. Anyone know of an insurance company that insures "pole barn houses"?

Who is you current insurance provider? I am with American Family and they may be able to do something for you.

Cincinnati. My agent also checked with Wayne and they were the same. They don't want to recognize it as my home.

Well, in the world we live in today it is always advisable to ask first then do. Insurance companies ****. They have shared data bases ( which I think violates anti-trust laws) to see who has what. I went through trying to buy insurance after a company cancelled us. They look up you name and BAM! there you are and all your previous insurance info for all companies. Can't get away from it. Good luck.

Been there done that :(:mad::confused:

I have been with allied insurance on mine for quite a few years now. At first I had to pay $$$ to another carrier as they were the only one that would insure my setup. "Normal" home owners insurance will not touch this type of deal. I think that the first guys were like $900 per year and now it's $600 or so... at the time I first got insured it would have been about $400 for a conventional home owners policy.

I have to have a tenet policy for the house side and a building policy for the shop side.
Its about the same price as a home owners policy.
