This is your build thread on the building, ask whatever you need to get the job done. Most won't care.

So little update and a few questions.

Have electricians running 100 amps from house out to barn and wiring barn.

I have 12 ,4 bulb, t8, 4 foot trouffers, 5 of them brand new, and the rest are a mix of used ones that are same wattage, just different brands and case style.

The electricans were talking about screwing them from the bottom of the trusses or hanging with chains, I think I want them in between the trusses so that when I put a steel ceiling in the future you wont be able to see the case and it will be flush with the roof.

They said they can do this, I just have to pick up some 2x4s tonight.

Is this how you guys are mounting them? If I had them exposed where you could see them with ceiling in I would want to buy new fixtures to match the other 5 I just purchased.

Thanks

Cody

Electrical turned out really nice, plenty of light with 12 t8 4 bulb fixtures. I had them put a switch in my attached garage to turn on service door light from house. Super excited to get my mohawk installed. Im only 28 but been working on cars and trucks since i was 14. Have hoists at work, will be so nice to have one at home!

That looks nice, are you planning a heat source for the inside? I saw you were running an electrical service, are you going to run natural gas or have propane?

That yellow master heater for now. Be a little while till i get barn insulated and finished out inside. Im hoping when i do get it fully insulated and interior done it wont take much to heat. Doors are insulated. That master heater got it up to 65 the other day no problem when it was 30f outside.

Love your building, I'm looking at the same size. Just curious, when they poured your floor did they isolate the poles / bottom girders from the concrete? How deep does your frost level go? I'm considering pole barn but unsure how the floor would be done. My frost zone goes down to 48" + here in Nova Scotia

Ok been thinking about placement for the mohawk. Mohawk suggest 12'8" from wall to front of vehicle for a fullsize. I have 30' to work with. I want to be able to accommodate the largest vehicles. But i also want as much space in front of the vehicle as possible. Ideally i would want to be able to pull in a quad cab long box diesel and be able to shut the door with the hitch in. Right now im figuring setting center of post at 13 foot. Correct my thinking if im wrong, but if i backed a shorter vehicle in instead of pulled in i would have more room on the door side, correct? Vehicles that i own consist of a chevy cruze, chevy s10 zr2, rcsb chevy truck, my dads reg cab long box chevy. But i also have freinds with quad cab dmaxes and im hoping to do some side work. I want to accomodate all vehicles but not sacrifice comfort working on my own. Thats why i came up with the backing in idea.

Thanks

Cody

Heres a pic of the bay in question at 12'8" or 13' everything should layout far enough from control joints.

And to answer your question i believe poles are 4 foot deep sat on concete "cookies". Cement is just poured around them.

Looks great! I like the layout of the building and the doors. I bought my house in rockford with the barn already in place. good thinking on putting the drain in. My barn is heated with no drain...taller addition soon to come, with drain! :)

Are you happy with the 13'6" height? Would that Mohawk have been comfortable with a 12ft limit? Nice shop, love the concrete apron.

Super happy with the height of the barn, i believe the overhead lines are right at 12 foot, i can pick up even the tallest of vehicles and stand under without ducking. Im 6ft.

Curious what everybody's opinion on insulating my barn would be? I'm real interested in having someone come in and just spray foam the whole thing. Would it be a good option to spray the underside of the roof directly to the steel? Someday I would like to put a steel ceiling in and wondering how that would all work together.

Thanks
