I have a 32x40 uninsulated pole barn with no overhang and 12 ft ceilings. I want to insulate and install metal ceiling. Since my trusses are at 4ft spacing i was thinking of 12 or 16 ft steel panels and with the help of a drywall jack maybe I could do it my self. Was planning to put plastic on bottom of trusses to hold unfaced insulation and act as a vapor barrier and then steel panels going 36inches at a time.what about the gaps at the roof to wall seams? With no overhang will snow or water get in and ruin the insulation? Do drywall jacks go that high or will I have to modify? I am afraid of heights and have nerve damage in my feet and cant climb a ladder or balance well as well and the garage is always full of my girlfriends and kids furniture and my mowers and parts so will have to move stuff around as I go.

"Normal" dry wall lifts are good for 11' 3" .....I think. My ceilings ar 13' 4" and the local rental business had to get me one from another local town, so yes they are available. I put up 12' pieces by myself. A great tool. You will need a baffle between your trusses and some sort of filler atop your wall cavity to hold the insulation.

Seems easy enough to make an adapter to get another foot out of one and I would assume the metal is a lot lighter too. I was thinking 24" wide unfaced rolled bats for insulation. I understand the filler atop the wall, what baffles do you mean?

Ok thanks for the HF info, would probably buy their lift as well. After looking at iinsulation I am not sure what to use. I thought I could get 48" wide rolls but 24 seems to be the norm. Can I put 2 24" wide rolls side by side without loosing the insulation value? My trusses are 4 ft spacing. I want to do a little at a time so wanted to use common rolls and purchase over time as I go. I already bought 20x100 ft 6mil plastic.

You'll have a 1.5" gap with two 24" on center rolls as they are actually 22.5" wide, not 24". Your trusses are 48" on center, not edge to edge, so the distance between them is 46.5".
