Pole barn interior framing

Within my 36x54' building, I am framing in a shop that will be 36'x18'. I am thinking about placing studs 24" O.C. Poles are every 9'. I want to have a loft above the framed in structure, used mostly for storage, not much else. I will put insulation in the walls. But I am wondering about thoughts on the spacing. Thought about going 4' OC... I will be using, probably 1/4" OSB plywood on the walls. The floor is concrete.

I ran horizontals on the pole sides to screw the drywall to. My poles are 6' apart.

If you are going to place floor joist on top of the new walls you don't want to run the studs horizontally. Is this build out going to take up just part of your pole building or the whole thing? I just framed out a 15x30 office in my 30x60 pole building and ran them vertically on 16" centers then set the floor joist on top of each stud. See the pic below.

64dragnwagon, that is almost the dimensions of my shop. I think the way you have it is most likely how I'll go. Still wondering about going 24" OC... since I'm using OSB ply for walls/ceiling. Did you use 2x8 or 2x6 for the ceiling joist's? Also, what is the insulation you are using?

If you are wanting to clear span 18' AND store some stuff up there you will need a 2"x12" 16" OC in my opinion. I am spanning 14' 6" and went with 2x10 16" OC, I looked up the requirements for that span and a 2x10 was what was needed. even then I won't be storing heavy stuff up there. If you had an interior wall halfway through the span (which I doubt you want) then you could use 2x8. I used 5/8" OSB on the floor, it is very sturdy. I like to overbuild stuff because you never know what you or the future owner will use the space for.

I made my ceiling out of 2x4x.250 tubing. Covered it with 3/4 t&g. Strapped the bottom side with 1x4 and put up drywall. Height was a concern and the storage area is used for motorcycles and atv's.

Whatever spacing you use for the joists, probably 16"OC, I'd have a wall stud right underneath it carrying the weight.

You also might find if you use OSB on the walls that 7/16" will be about the same price (probably straighter too) or maybe cheaper than 1/4".

Build your office like it's freestanding and don't consider that since its inside the pole barn I can go 24" oc and 1/4 plywood. As others mentioned 16" oc and 12" rafters for that 18' span. 3/4 decking on top and alleast 1/2" walls. In the big picture you will probably only spend another $1000 doing it right.
