Pole barn kit payment

Hello, I'm looking to buy a pole barn kit from DIY pole barns, and some of the specs are not standard, like 26g metal, 2 ft overhangs, etc.

It's a 42x72x14 barn to be used as workshop/storage.

Is it the norm for them to ask for full front payment ? Or is a deposit, then balance at delivery ?

I've read good things about DIY, but find it strange to pay 100% upfront.

Thanks

I've not bought a kit house nor barn but I would not pay 100% up front. Here in CA 50% is the norm for custom orders of smaller items. For something large I could see contacting the bank and having a fund control account set up. They usually cost 1-2% of the total. They pay out on vouchers presented as stages of completion are reached. A representative of the bank verifies the submission.

If it is really a kit....then yeah, they want to be paid for their stuff. A real kit is just a pile of material, the permits, engineering, approvals, build, foundation, etc, etc is on you and they are no longer in the picture.

IF this is actually for the construction, by DIY, of a 42x72x17 barn, then you should get with your bank or attorney and create a "draw" schedule for them to perform certain things and get part of their money for each phase completed. It needs to be well done and enforceable. There are just to many hoodooers out there now to do it any other way, as it will protect both of you.

NO WAY, would I pay that kind of money up front, with nothing to "encourage" them to complete the task to my satisfaction.

I bought from Diy and had absolutely no problems. The material is top notch and any problems will be handled promptly. Mike the owner explained it cost more to supply sub standard material as they would tell get it locally. That cost was more than supplying the best material they could. Paid for mine upfront and will be doing another one soon.

I't is for kit only, as I have a local trusty carpenter that will erect it. Slab is already poured
and I'm itching to get the shell done. Will be starting a build thread soon.

I had heard good things here on GJ on DIY, but upfront 100% for custom kit, guess it's normal.

If they were the builder I would expect a deposit with the remainder of materials due at delivery.

If you were to go to your local lumberyard and order the same pieces you would pay up front unless you had an account with them.

Yes I had to pay in advance for materials but if their preferred builder is used you pay a small amount for travel and the rest when done, They even left before I came home from work and said mail it in. I am very happy with mine by the way.
