Which way would you go if wanting a Pole Barn? Either kit or custom build with you buying materials? From what I found the kits are cheaper but material is also cheap as possible with unknown country of origin.Looking on internet there are so many places that sells kits and will put them together,it get confusing.Which way did you go and why, like to know before I make mistake

Check if there is a local lumberyard that sells kits. Even Lowes and HD may supply a kit, as might 84 Lumber and the rest. If there are poor materials in the kit you may be able to return.

I cannot imagine piecing together an entire lumber order one stick at a time.

I was in this spot a few years back. for me it was more cost effective (not cheaper) to have a company build my building for me. They did the structure itself and the concrete and I finished the interior. In my case, I'd of had to rent equipment to prep the site, raise trusses, etc. not to mention they did he job in < a week and it would have taken me a few months of weekends. I paid a little more, but think it was worth it.

I got my kit from https://www.diypolebarns.com/. Materials were top level and more than enough to cover. They were great to work and anything that I didn’t like was promptly handled. There wasn’t much that was problematic. More to do with code here.
They have a great web site and it allows you to play with feature on your barn. Instant quote from that. Check them out and they have crews too.

With the way lumber prices are, you might want to hold off. I compared a diypolebarns.com quote that I got in July to one today, and its 33% more for the same exact building.

Thanks guys for the suggestion,I have got a price from 5 Star who is local and I price it with me buying materials that I feel are better quality down to the american made nails. But as Shoester saying dang the prices have gone up since couple months ago. So still up in air on this till prices come down,I hope.

I just finished one and I bought a "kit" from Menards. They have a good program on their website for designing what you want and giving you a price. Once you decide to purchase it just fills in your shopping cart on the website with all your items so you can actually review by line item. I ended up taking out parts I didn't want or already had covered and added a few things I knew I wanted.

I skipped the delivery option and went to the store to pick up. I pulled all my own lumber minus trusses and posts that were special order. I ended up with two posts that were not usable but they took them back and got me new ones. I did have to wait a few days for them to come in though. I also broke up the items I picked up since I had limited staging space. I ended up making three trips and they had no problem with that.

Overall it was a good experience. I bought my materials in July and out of curiosity priced the same build last week and it jumped about $3,500.

If you have a Menards they have a computer program so you can build what you want, how you want it and then order. I was impress with the lumber and my building.

I am pretty sure but NOT positive that 5 Star gets their steel from this first listing -

https://www.steelbuildingsupply.com/

Another supplier - https://metalmarts.com/locations/longview

I would hire 5 Star again, but remember I told you a bit of simple but important work needs to be done on reinforcing their framing.

Be aware there are different qualitys levels of the screws w rubber washers.

i know it's almost 2 years later, but did you mean the july quote was more, or the one in november?

We built a 60 x 120 pole barn for a horse rancher. He used telephone poles which we laid on ground and built walls that way. Between a backhoe and dump truck the walls were raised and dropped into respective holes. Roof was 60' trusses hoisted by crane, which blew down in freak wind storm. Had to repair quite a few. The barn is still standing 40 years on and has seen a few additions. Cost today the horses would be standing out in open field. Oh I recall painting the roof with some Home Depot 5 gal. pails bought on clearance. Nice suntan...

Kit suppliers buy their materials in large quantities and get the best possible prices. They can pass these savings on to you, and in a competitive market may do so to get your business.

The November quote was 33% higher. I just checked today, and it's now 42% higher and the new quote doesn't even include OH doors (DIYpolebarns isn't quoting them in my area anymore).

I bought a 24x32x10 pole barn kit from DIY in 2017. Pretty much as bare bones as I could get and still afford it. 12' wide split slider on the gable and 1 steel man door. No windows, I did pay extra for the plastic post sleeves. 7350 was the total back then.
Now if I had to do it, it's more than doubled.....
Currently in the process of adding more storage, I think adding on another 16' to the back side of the barn and leaving 1 side open is going to cost almost as much as the whole building did back then lol
