I went with a 3x3 array of the 2ft Lithonia High bay lights that HD sells (IBH 11L)...Pretty good light coverage in my 48x44 space. Love the instant on at all temperatures.

I can not believe that the energy consumption of the 3 different fixtures is that close, assuming the total lumens is the same.

just going off their advertised numbers (which could be bogus) and the amount of lamps to install.. i can dig up the details if you like, i have my notes somewhere.

My order came in last week. still in boxes stacked in the barn. Hope to get to wiring at some point and then ceiling work (vapor barrier and steel) so i can then go hang them all.

im wondering where ill place my tube heating when i get it (diff thread) now that i have a light layout.

What model and kind of steel ceiling did you go with? Any particular outlet? I may do the same.

So I went against all the advice here and tried the LED light strip experiment. I used 32 5M long 5630x300 white LED strips mounted to steel furring strips with PU construction adhesive (I tried hotmelt on the first four but it did not hold up). They are configured into 16 fixtures 8ft long. They are powered by 4 switchable 12V30A power supplies mounted in the attic and low voltage wire through the ceiling to each fixture. I added a 10A fuse to each fixture for good measure as well as connectors so I can easily disconnect Total cost: $270 with measured light output of 1100 LUX 3 ft from floor. Ceiling height is 12'6" and work space is 24'x30'. It was a lot of work building each fixture but I am very happy with the results.
