Pole barn lighting - which way?

I have a 30x50 pole barn i will be wiring for lighting soon. Here is a pic so you guys can see how it lays out:



These are the 8ft tandem lights I will be using:

Questions:

01. Am I better off running them long ways down the 50 feet inside or running them parallel to the door?

02. I am planning on installing 12 lights , does that seem adequate for the building?

The direction is entirely up to you. But I'd do 14 to 16 fixtures to be up around 100 lumens per sqft. A 4ft F32T8 lamp is about 2600-2800 LU. But the light needed depends on what you plan on doing in the pole barn.

I did 12 lights in a 30 * 36. I did about the same fixtures as you but got mine from Lowe's. With 12 lights its pretty bright. I generally only turn on the center row for most instances but I haven't been working on anything of importance yet.

I would do 3 rows of 5 lights down the 50' length for a total of 15 lights. The 8' lights are nice to **** up against each other and use as a race way to run your wires through. The fewer the rows the quicker the install will be. That would be my reasoning for running them down the 50' length.

Ceiling or no ceiling?

If there's no ceiling I'd use lamps with a reflector.

I did 2,400 sq. ft. in my bld'g using 18 Lithonia IBZ654 T-5 fixtures. I like it.

These are dual ballast. I have six light banks, 3 fixtures per bank. Two switches per pair of light banks. One switch turns on 2 bulbs per fixture, the other turns on the other four. This makes so much sense I wonder why others don't do it. Endless combinations to light the space I'm using or not using. Ya' only have to run one more wire, 12-3 romex to do it.

I think I have about 170 fc when everything is on. Bright.

Buy the fixtures with the bulbs. You'll save $$$$$$ doing that.
