I am planning to build a new 30x40 pole barn myself or have it built and i want it to have a loft. What would the side wall height need to be to do this? Where would i get plans for something like this? Thanks Guys
P.S. Love this site.

Like kroozer said, using a loft style truss will not affect the sidewall height of your building. I did this a few years ago when I added a garage and office to my house.

A 28' truss will get you 14' of usable space above the main floor, PLUS, all of the kneewalls can be used for storage and bookcases if you put floors in them, insulate the roof and put on doors instead of drywall on the interior walls. I made doors out of 3/4" oak veneer plywood. Used 5 sheets to cover all of the openings with 4 doors per sheet.

As a truss designer, I think you'll be steered away from storage or attic trusses for a pole building, especially that size, because the spacing is often too great. I think a better choice would be taller walls with a mezzanine. You could go with a vaulted (scissor) style truss to minimize the pole height.

Bowtiebubba,
Here are some pics of my 30x40 loft garage........in the first pic, you can see the room upstairs. According to the building company, wall height was my descision (within reason!!)

In gallery section under one of the five threads I have titled "detached building" you'll find photos of my shop and recent build of it. It has a second story. It is 36 foot wide and I used attic storage trusses that give the upper floor 14 foot width.
Main floor is just under 13 feet.....total building height is almost 23.....mean height of 18 feet which is right at my allowed maximum mean height.
Good luck with it........ Keith

Rather than bring up a 4+ year old post with only 10 posts, you might get better results using the search feature or pm the person you'd like to talk to.
