Make them the same length as your current roof. Then they'll catch the runoff from the upper roof and carry it away rather than pouring down into the openings at the ends of the overhangs (or a snow pile).

Good looking barn! Are you adding a lean-to? It seems like a patio or trailer is going to need a 10-14' wide overhang.

Getting the Z-flashing for the roof and the slot thru the existing metal seems to sometimes be an issue. Seems like you might have a natural break right below the trim-band (?)

Copy the above into a google search and do images and you will find many pictures to peruse. Are you thinking to add on from the roof line or add on at the trim band? How high is the trim band and is it high enough to attach to and still have clearance to the camper considering the roof slope?

The band is a double 2 x 12 I added when I built the barn for a over hang which I am ready to add now. The eve is 16 foot and band is at 12'.

I made my overhand 1' shorter on the front and back. This was done so that the corner trim can be continuous from the roof to the ground. It makes for an overall cleaner looking installation and gives the gutters a place to run from the roof straight to the ground.

This picture might make a little more sense. This is how I had my overhang framed.
