Pole Barn Post Covering Options?

I wondered what other pole barn owners did with their posts; I've had people suggest staining them, and my mindset was to use vinyl post coverings cut lenghtwise to cover them. However, my poles are 5.5" and I can only find 4" vinyl post coverings.

Any suggestions, sources of material, or alternatives and photos would be appreciated.

FWIW, I've already got 3/4 rigid foam insulation on the walls, will be covering the floor with the Wolverine coating this coming week, and will be putting more rigid foam on the walls, and then OSB. I'm still deciding on a final covering material, I want smooth white walls, but Lowes want's $50 a sheet for the smooth FRB , so I may end up going with just the white tile board at $10 a sheet..

I haven't done this to mine YET, but here's my plan. Poles on Mine are 4x6 PT posts. I'm going to put up rigid foam against the exterior sheeting (wood) and then frame out the interior so that the studs end up even with the posts. Then I'll Drywall the interior.

Check with a vinyl siding contractor, I bet you could use sofit material or something like it to cover them.

I am finishing one bay in my shop for a game room/trophy room and have thought of the idea of cutting a peeled pine log in half and then notching the back side to fit over the 6x8 post to give it log post look....I know probably not cool for the shop portion but the game room will have that alpine rustic look with river rock fireplace and such.

The posts will still protrude from the wall by about 2" after doing the insulation/OSB/tile board. I really don't want to cover up the posts, but I guess I will have to consider it.

My overall theme of the shop is smooth/smooth. Smooth floor, no decoflakes, stainless steel workcounters, stainless steel work benches, smooth FRP or tileboard walls, and the ceiling is the same corrugated metal as the exterior walls.

I want to cover the posts to make is smooth, and color coordinate with the walls/floors. If I could hide the wood grain (posts are pressure treated lumber), that would be the best path. vinyl covers would work the best. I really don't want to paint them. If not white, then a contrasting sapphire blue on the posts, vs. the white walls and ultra light grey floors.

If I read your initial post right, sounds like you are finishing your interior walls with OSB. I would box my posts with 2x6s and then OSB, or even box them directly with the OSB. When I did commercial construction we would box steel columns either with wood then drywall or wire one layer of drywall to the column in a box fashion, then screw a second layer to that. I prefer boxing with wood first.

Another idea is to rent a siding brake & buy a roll of aluminum coil from Lowes, HD, etc & bend custom covers for them. Use construction adhesive to secure the covers with no nails. I've done this in my patio room with no problems & it gave a clean look as you're wanting.

Why don't you add 2 more inches of insulation so then the OSB will be even with the front of the stud?
