I need to run 220v power from the house to the pole barn, it`s about a 250` run with about 100` going through the basement/crawlspace, the rest will be buried. the house was built all electric but we have since converted from heat pump heating/cooling to nat gas so there is plenty of space in the circuit breaker panel. I will use the 220v line exclusively for a 5hp Quincy air compressor rated at 28 amps, overhead lighting and other 110v outlets. I do intend on adding a sub panel out in the barn.....I don`t need the best but I don`t want to be cheap about it either so the question is what is the the recommended size cable? and recommended product considering part will be inside and part buried outside? I believe the wiring in the basement/crawlspace can be a Romex type product........thanks in advance. PS: I do have an electrician doing the hookup I just wanted some opinions...

What amp sub panel are you going to install, the wiring size is based off that.

I`m thinking 60 or 100amps If I was to get more equipment I would never run two machines at the same time.....
