I stopped over at a buddies yesterday to see his new Pole Barn. 52' x 60' with 16' ceilings. I wish I had gotten some pic of it. He had a company out of Indiana put it up. And no, I don't remember the name of the company. He's going to run electric out to it when the weather breaks but not finish it off as he is just going to use it for cold storage. It does have a concrete floor though.

The company that erected it charged him $4000 for the erection, I'll send him a text later today and get the particulars on the other items. It has one man door, and two, 16 x 12 rollup doors, one at each end. Total price was $27,000 to build it. And if I heard him right, he said that was before concrete. $27,000 didn't sound too bad until you take the $4000. That would be $23,000 for materials. Doesn't that seem sort of high for a barn that size? :dunno:

Not enough info to know. How was it build?

Pole size?
Nested perlins?
Bookshelf girts?
Pole spacing?
Screwed or nailed tin?
Gauge and quality of the tin......

Way to many variables in pole barn construction to make comparison without the detail.

Not enough info to know. How was it build?

Pole size? 6x6 @ 4' deep
Nested perlins? No. Perlins are fastened to the top of the rafters
Bookshelf girts? Yes, then bolted
Pole spacing? 10' I believe
Screwed or nailed tin? Screwed
Gauge and quality of the tin...... Didn't ask the gage but appears to be fairly heavy material

Way to many variables in pole barn construction to make comparison without the detail.

That sounds like a decent price, depending where you live our designers step up to a 6X8 for any walls over 12'.

Is this a Real Thread??

52 feet x 60 feet Pole Barn

With 16 ft "ceilings" that you claim . . . that would be MASSIVE!!

I'm not buying this post. Was that a type-o?? Are you kidding?

Everything you've said is so nebulous. This smells of BS. :eyecrazy:

What is there not to believe ?

52'x60' ? Somewhat of a odd size but maybe that's what fits his lot or what he's storing it it ?

16' ceilings ? Obvioulsy you've never been on a farm.

I also thought 52' was on the EXTREME side

As for prices. I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a 40'x60'x12' post steel. A bunch or extras and 65 cu.ft. of cement for the bld'g and l-a-r-g-e aprons. Including grading, 3" vinyl backed insulation, gutters, interior separating wall, 3 canister O/H doors, personnel doors, windows, etc. I'm in at $15.60/sq.ft. I'll have to pay for plumbing and electric outa' my pocket.

I've seen plenty of pole barns all over OK, KS, MO, AR etc, but all the nebulous info by Keven doesn't make sense - - was already anticipating questions and had excuse. Farmers that build those big pole barns are generally for hay storage. They do NOT put in concrete floors, nor roll-up doors on each end, and sometimes no walls - - - they just put up pole barn for the roof to protect their hay.

If farmers close in pole barn, then they generally have massive slider doors on both ends so equipment can be driven in and out of pole barn.

When dieselgarage asks for details, magically those come out of the hat? But Kevin just "stopped by buddy's house yesterday" and OP doesn't remember the name of company that put up the barn?? How can that be??

To me, price seems way too low for something that massive, if in fact it's really true. Big part of cost would be how the roof is held up ... but absolutely no information on that?? Go ahead and prove me wrong with some pics and I'll eat crow.

:wtf: Why the hell would I post a ******** question like that? It's a buddies garage, not mine, and what the hell would I GAIN by posting a ******** question. Jeezus Christ, I'll go up this weekend with my tape measure and take some pictures.

16' ceilings are only a couple of feet more that the 12' or 14' ceilings that most people are building their barns at. What the hell? He's going to later put in a loft for storage. Maybe that's why he wanted 16'. He also has been getting into older John Deere tractors, "A"'s and "B"'s. So when he gets home and it's late, he pulls his truck, large 5th wheel flatbed trailer, and the tractors on the trailer in and and shuts it down for the night without unloading anything.

Better yet, I can take you to see it first hand. All you have to do is bring your tape measure and camera. And as far as being "nebulous"? You call me something like that because I ask a question? I didn't call you a "********" because you think I made a ******** post, or at least going back through, I didn't see where I did.

So...if you want, we'll hook up this weekend, I'll take you up to see his barn, we'll have a couple of brewskies, and you can ask him any questions you want about it. But if per chance you can't make it, I'll grab my camera and snap a few pics. Howz that?

Good grief. Our shop at the farm is 60x100x16. . .fully insulated, with a heated concrete floor. Get your head out of your ***.

Oh ya. . .roll up doors. . .

Today's Thursday . . . you said you went to buddy's yesterday . . . that's Wednesday . . . so buddy surely can't live that far away.

I'd love to see pictures of how roof is built and what all "your buddy" is putting in the massive finished pole barn. That would be interesting for GJ readers. Lots of pics would be terrific.

However, first thing everyone wants to know . . . WHAT COMPANY . . . built the massive pole build for $27K that you say. That sounds like awful good deal. Again, others GJ'ers might want to give that company a chance, so tell us what your buddy sent back in his text as to the company that built the massive finished pole barn.

I'm ready to eat crow . . . serve it up. ;)

So what is your point ? First it was the size of the building, now it's the builder ?

Not all bldgs that size are used for hay storage, many more are used for equipment, livestock and sometimes grain storage. Some get a large amount of concrete poured (especially for grain storage) in them too.

Here's a link to a Menard's package, bigger than Kevin mentioned.

http://www.menards.com/main/buildin...x-64l-x-16h-agricultural/p-1495388-c-9901.htm

Looks comparable to me, as his buddy's building didn't include concrete (if Kevin remembered correctly) or the 4 grand for erection.

Big deal Kevin couldn't remember all the details, maybe he didn't think about it till later and was wondering about it. Maybe that's why he posted it here ?
Kevin has been around for alot longer than you, always been a straight shooter and offered good advise alot of times from personal experience. If he says his buddy got his building built for "X" amount of dollars, I have no reason not to believe him.

Now if Kevin turns out to be a scammer selling HF ratchets with SO handles, I'm positive that I wouldn't be the only one that is surprised.

For reference only. Mine is 44x56x16 or 58x56x16 if including lean-to.
Less windows, 3 garage doors and concrete I was under $25.
It sounds nice, invite him over to the site.

Seriously, have you misplaced your meds? Yea, todays Thursday, I went to my buddies yesterday, I didn't have to go through a ******* time warp to get there, unlike the deep space I'm beginning to think you have between your cab doors. What the hell does distance have to do with anything Einstein? Let's see.....If I have to account for my mileage travelled yesterday to satisfy your interest, I travelled 196.7 miles. I left the house at 6:30 am, drove about two miles to fill up at the station, went to the Capital City to the docs office, left the docs and went to the factory that makes neon lighting, spent a few minutes in there to check on my neon "Service" sign. After that. I left and went past another docs office just to see where it was at. I took took a little drive on some backroads, enjoying the day, made a call and drove to the highest point in Ohio. While I was there, I drove down the shortest street in the United States, went around the block, then drove down the first concrete in America.

After driving around town for a little while I thought I would head home. I decided to take a left turn and go see my buddies barn that he had built. That may have been around 12:45. Things looked all closed up around there so I figured I'd give him a call. ******* guess what? He was home. His girlfriend and him had just gotten up. Had a cup of coffee, shot the **** for a little while, went out to see his tractor and his Camaro, then over to look at his new barn. We stood around and chatted for maybe 27 minutes, give or take maybe 36 seconds, then I decided to come home so he could get his affairs in order before him and his chickypoo went to work.

Anything else you really need to know right this minute? I'm going to start working on my truck if I have one. It's a red truck, a red Dodge, a red 4wd Dodge. A 2002 Red Dodge Ram 1500 with a 5.9 with a little rust on the back fender and tailgate. And I have some chrome tube step bars on it too that lets you step up on them to get in. On a good day it gets 12-13 miles per gallon of gas.

I have a garage too and it has what some call red walls, but they don't match my Dodge truck that is red, so I call the walls maroon. Outside of the garage, the snow is starting to melt to. The grass is green where there is no snow. Above the grass is air. Air's not blue. But if you look high enough you can see the sky. The sky looks a blue color. The air holds the sky up because the sky is a big area. If we didn't have air to hold the sky up, the sky would fall. If you want, I can probably take a picture of the grass and sky to prove that to you also.

So really....do you really need to know how far my buddy lives away from my house? Seriously? If you do, I'll record the mileage the next time I go there.

Today's Thursday . . . you said you went to buddies yesterday . . . that's Wednesday . . . so buddie surely can't live that far away.

Oh, and to answer your question, it doesn't take a whole day to get there. Maybe 20-25 minutes tops. And it's spelled BUDDY. With a "Y" and not an "IE"

Well before you started shooting off your **********, why didn't you ask what the company name was? As soon as I hear from him I be sure you're the very first to know. I let everyone know that the name of the company will be forthcoming and I won't be able to let them in on it until you hear it first. ****, I'll even call you on the phone if you want me to. We'll make this a huge event to announce it. Maybe we can get some balloons, and some clowns, and some horses. Horses would be great wouldn't it. We'll put a wagon behind them that they can pull, and we'll have a pretty girl in the wagon dressed in a glittery dress, with clowns running along the side of the wagon, and when we get close, you'll see the envelope that she's holding in her little petite hands, and by God, inside the envelope I'll have her write the name of the company on a card. When she opens it, the music will start playing then start getting quiet but you'll hear a drum roll. At frst it sounds like it's off in the distance, but it starts getting louder and louder, but not all at once because I really want to make this special for you. You'll hear the drum roll, just a little louder and a little faster. Goddammit, this is going to be so damn spectacular, you'll **** your pant in anticipation. Then slowly she raises her hands and you'll see her open that envelope. And just as soon as she opens it, balloons, lots of balloons, and confetti, lots and lots of confetti come falling from the rafters, but don't look up because if you do, you might get a piece of confetti in your eye. I had that happen one time at a football game. We were winning, well not really winning because we were tied. But as soon as we made a touchdown people started yelling, and they had horns that were honking, and some were throwing confetti off of the bleachers. I was walking under the bleachers and looked up and that's when it hit. Right in the eye. I just about **** right there on the spot. I couldn't see. And you know...**** rhymes with hit. I just about **** when I got hit, in the eye with confetti on our way to go eat spaghetti. See, you didn't even think that anything rhymed with confetti did you? Not to many words will. Spaghetti might be the only word that does. Nothing rhymes with "orange" though. People have tried but it just didn't sound right. They started thinking about some words to rhyme with orange, so they started singing, "orange, orange bo borange, but it just didn't sound as good as banana. With banana, you really can get to going with something like banana, banana, fo fanna, Anna anna bo banna, banana fanna fo fanna, me my mo manna ANNA!!!!!!!!! Man that's some cool **** right there ain't it.

Anyways, there CNG, by God we'll sing the hell out of the song when Anna Anna Fo Fanna opens the envelope with the name of the company. The music and the balloons will ring from the rafters. And you'll have to be right beside Anna. I had an Aunt named Anna, but we never did sing the Anna Banana fo fanna me my mo manna Anna song to her. You know why? I couldn't remember the words. We tried once though and she said she liked it, but I know she really didn't because my Uncle told me later she didn't like it. But it went something like this....Anna anna bo banna, banana fanna fo fanna, me my mo manna..Anna. Then we would say it again....Anna anna bo banna, banana fanna fo fanna, me my mo manna..Anna. Then one of my friends got screwed up and it came something like Anna Anna fo rama, fleas flight fo bana, banana rama go santa, go santa, g_o_santa (that's slow motion talk right there) and after he said go santa about four times then he started singing on Dasher, On Dancer, On Donner on Vixen. Was it Vixen or Blitzen? Well hell, we can finish the song. Check this out Vixen Vixen bo Blitzen, Banana Rama for Anna, she shopped for a banana Anna and hold on to your *** because HERE WE GO.............Anna anna bo banna, banana fanna fo fanna, me my mo manna..Anna Shirley
Shirley, Shirley bo birley
Bonana fanna fo firley
Fee fie mo mirley, Shirley

Lincoln
Lincoln, Lincoln bo bincoln
Bonana fanna fo fincoln
Fee fie mo mincoln, Lincoln

Come on everybody
I say now let's play a game
I bet you I can make a rhyme
Out of anybody's name

The first letter of the name
I treat it like it wasn't there
But a B or an F or an M will appear

And then I say bo
Add a B then I say the name
And Bonana fanna and a fo
And then I say the name again
With an F very plain
And a fee fie and a mo

And then I say the name
Again with an M this time
And there isn't any name
That I can't rhyme

Arnold
Arnold, Arnold bo barnold
Bonana fanna fo farnold
Fee fie mo marnold, Arnold

But if the first two letters
Are ever the same
I drop them both
And say the name like

Bob, Bob drop the B's, Bo ob
For Fred, Fred drop the F's, Fo red
For Mary, Mary drop the M's, Mo ary
That's the only rule that is contrary

Okay, now say Bo (bo)
Now Tony with a B (bony)
Then Bonana fanna fo (bonana fanna fo)
Then you say the name again
With an F very plain (fony)
Then a fee fie and a mo (fee fie mo)
Then you say the name again
With an M this time (mony)
And there isn't any name
That you can't rhyme

Everybody do Tony
Tony, Tony, bo bony
Banana fana fo fony
Fee fie mo mony, Tony

Pretty good, let's do Billy
Billy, Billy, bo illy
Banana fana fo filly
Fee fie mo milly, Billy

Very good, let's do Marsha
Marsha, Marsha, bo barsha
Bana fana fo farsha
Fee fie mo arsha, Marsha

A little trick with Nick
Nick, Nick, bo bick
Banana fana fo fick
Fee mie mo mick, Nick

To get this train wreck of a thread back on the tracks. My building is 60x64x16.

I cost me right about 40K. But I had the builder do things to it that he had never done before and said no one in there right mind would pay to have done again. I have been in far to many pole building when the wind blows you think the entire structure is going to come down. NOT mine.

Kevin one question. Did you ever stop to take a leak that day. Just curious I know I can't go that long with out?

I treat it like it wasn't there
But a B or an F or an M will appear

And then I say the name again
With an F very plain
And a fee fie and a mo

And then I say the name
Again with an M this time
And there isn't any name
That I can't rhyme

Arnold

But if the first two letters

I drop them both
And say the name like

For reference only. Mine is 44x56x16 or 58x56x16 if including lean-to.
Less windows, 3 garage doors and concrete I was under $25.
It sounds nice, invite him over to the site.

Hmmm $10.14 sq ft

What I want is 1200 sq ft or $12,168 at that build price.

I did get one quote for pole building with no doors or concrete for $9,600 or $8.00 sq ft. Add concrete at roughly $3.50 sq ft and $2000 for doors and I'm at $13.16 for that.

This is funny.

I mentioned 52' being extreme only because my assumption was this distance was a clear span, which it very well might be. But I thought 52' is a stretch on a clear span. Maybe not. I need to get educated if it is.
