This past spring, I contracted a pole building to be built on my property. Dimensions were 40 feet wide by 48 feet deep. A 16x14 garage door was installed along with 5” of concrete.

My initial planned use of the building was primarily for farm equipment and vehicle storage.

This past summer, in my spare time, I added 12’ wings on either side of the building, ending up with a total 64’ x 48’ foot structure. I am very pleased with the finished product.

Since the building was completed, I am now thinking of walling off approximately one quarter of the inside portion of the building, insulating it, and then using it as a heated shop.

I recently read on this site, that when framing inside a pole building, one should not tie the framing to the poles. No explanation was given. Can someone enlighten me why?

Nice looking building! I've been building post frame buildings for over 20 years, and have never heard of not attaching interior walls to the posts. I've done it several times, never heard of a problem.

Very nice garage. I would say that some pole barns may move in the wind and thats why you would not tie it in. But I think your pretty safe in yours not moving.
