I was hoping to be starting my own garage build thread here soon, but I was just told today by one builder that they are at least 14 weeks out before they could even get to mine. Another builder has on their website that they are not accepting any new customers for 2017 and possibly later.

Has anyone else run into this?

What ***** is since my township has been unpredictable lately, I had wanted to secure the necessary permits before starting. That took over a month because somehow, I got lost in their system. Now this. I was hoping to get under roof before winter, then get a floor poured in the spring.

I would build it myself, but with 16' walls, I can not get the necessary help, so I have to rely on others.

My father was to have a metal carport built for his RV last summer. Well summer came and went and so did fall. No carport. He ended up getting his money back and building one out of wood for nearly the same price and close to double the size. He did all the work him self. Dug the holes, set the 20ft 8x8 poles. You can do alot with a rope and pully system and some extra time.

Sounds like your obviously in a time crunch and this company is not going to help you. Why not contact a local builder? Or better yet start doing it your self and hire people for specific jobs? No one is going to care more about the outcome of your building more than you.

One other thing to keep in mind, the good builders will be booked further out, and there's a reason some other crew you find might be immediately available. Much better to wait a few months for a good builder, than spend years regretting a bad one.

Yeah thats what I am figuring as well.

I got several quotes from several builders. I just got a reply back from another one that they are 6 weeks out. They are in the same price range as the one thats 14 weeks out. Gonna think about it over the weekend.

I had gotten quotes from Pioneer Pole and another one that Pioneer uses when they are busy, but they were at least $6000 more for the exact same size, but the two builders I have it narrowed down are putting up a better product than Pioneer (they are both Amish companies).

Though very true that the big names and "good" contractors may be booked out, that doesn't necessarily mean that all other contractors are crappy.

Ask for references!

Having started my own landscape company and not being booked out 4 months doesn't mean that I don't do good work (though it could), but that people haven't seen my name and called me yet.

Not really in a time crunch, would have been nice to have the building for at least part of the winter for projects that can only be done indoors during that time.
If I was building a 10' high building, no problem, but 16' high, problem. I helped a friend about 15 years ago with their building (18' high), we had help and a crane to set trusses, then about 5 guys to pull up and install the roof panels. Fast forward to now, that friend and his brother are both deceased, and no access to a crane without paying for it. With the quotes I have, I am only spending about $3000 - $4000 in labor and equipment.....to me, its worth that for not having the headaches and dealing time constraints.

The main purpose for this garage is to work on a special project. I have a 1947 Ford 1 ton truck that I am planning on a resto mod with. I have had it for almost 14 years now. Got it from my father in law. I would like to have it done for my daughters prom (she is currently in 4th grade)

I am currently looking for a chassis donor truck right now for it.

I have not been able to work on it because I have no space in my existing garage for it (much less anything else) I guess the thought or finally working on it got me going and then bam, stopped again.

Mind sharing who you are looking at for your work? I am out in the Pottstown area and will be starting to look in the near future and only knew of Pioneer from positive feedback on local builds.

Good luck with the build.

Glad to see you're thinking ahead.
Have you tried Morton? Are they out by you?

Good luck with the build.

Timberline out of Hegins (someone recommended them) they are the 14 week
Conestoga Building out of New Holland

I had gotten prices from Core Structures out of New Tripoli, but they work with Pioneer and had the same price. Another company was Garages N More (Alburtis), but he was priced a little higher than Timberline and Conestoga.

Tam Lapp was also recommended, but they are currently not accepting new customers. Zawada is also good, but higher pricing.

All of those will go to Pottstown area.

To my knowledge, Morton is not in our area, plus according to my deed, no metal buildings are allowed for a few more years, when the farm was divided, they put the restriction in place for some reason (done in 1987)

Geez. You think it would have expired 30 years later.

I had to wait about 10 weeks to have mine built last year. They have become really popular

Chaosracer. I’m interested in the details of the two builders. Cost, size and options. I’m in Hamburg area. Looking for something in the next year or so.

Chaosracer. I’m interested in the details of the two builders. Cost, size and options. I’m in Hamburg area. Looking for something in the next year or so.

I am building a 26'x38'x16' building. 4' Wainscotting, 1 foot overhangs on all 4 sides, 1 18'x12' R13.5 garage door, 1 3' 9 lite door, 4 36"x48" windows. Double bubble insulation under the roof panels. Snow guards and seamless 5" k gutter and downspouts.
Both builders have proposed 28 gauge steel panels, all others were at 29 gauge (thinner metal)
I am probably providing post protectors(plastic covers for the posts). I would love perma columns, but that adds $3000+ to the job. If I was building it myself, I could buy right from Perma Column since they are in Lenhartsville, the cost would have been cheaper.

My cost is at $19,000 to $21,000. I will have someone (no idea yet) pour a floor, but I am going to prep it myself. I am going to run my own electric as well.
