i'm wanting a pole barn, approx. 30x40 built, maybe only 10 or 12' ceiling height, and just wandered if anyone in the wva area had any experience with anyone that builds these? i'm not the handiest, so i'd want someone to come in and at least frame it up and cover it. Im pretty fortunate because my land I want it on is flat, so no excavating is needed. I "think" I can always concrete the flooring at a later time?

curious what it'd cost and if i'd have enough:confused:

I staked off a 28x28 area just to see if I had enough room for a 30x40, and it looks like it wouldn't be a problem at all to go bigger than I staked off. I just want to store my old car and have room to put in a 4 post lift someday also. Finding someone to take down my 10x12 building shouldn't be a problem either.

thanks guys

i'd like to build this garage (pic is as an attachment) its a 30x40x12

I contacted www.timberlinebuildings.com , they are located in martinsburg wva, they gave me a quote of somewhere in the neighborhood of 17k, but that's not with any concrete work, does that sound about right? oh, and 6x6's are spaced 8' apart. Any suggestions? thanks again

You might want to shoot an elevation line...... I will bet that 'build site' will require some sort of excavation. Good luck.

Pouring the floor later is common so that's no problem.

Guys here will tell you that if you want a lift to go with the 12' sidewalls and likely would also recommend scissor trusses as well.

$14 per square foot doesn't sound too far off for a "smallish" post frame building without concrete work. I would recommend reading through some of the build threads on this forum and the Garage Gallery forum.

I live in ky. I built a 30x40x12. the materials kit was $8,700. that came with 2- 10x10 doors, 1- 36" man door, 1-3x3 window, and double bubble under the metal on the roof only. it also included all the metal, trim, nails,screws,etc.. no concrete. 6x6 post, trusses every 5'
I hired a guy to put it up, he charged 2,400 labor.

I agree, that price is reasonable, at least around here it is. The cost of the concrete will push up the final cost of the building substantially though.

Look online at DIY polebarns. I live just North of Martinsburg, WV. I had a local guy erect the kit and do the concrete but if I had it to do over I would have used DIY pole barns builder. I talked to him several times but the local builder made a lot of promises. it turned out Ok but was a hassle. Oh, if you do use DIY for the kit, you will need engineer stamped plans

That should hold a few squarebody Chevies! :)

Slonaker

lol, hey man, still got yours? I haven't had a square body in several years now

thinking now about not putting it in our yard, but putting it at my mothers house. Ive already started cutting tree's down there anyway, and going to start excavating it hopefully next week.

hard to try and do a large pole building on a budget, I've gotten quotes from 17k-23k. After much research on here, i'm thinking now about going 32 wide by 44 long with 16 foot ceiling height. Do you guys think that will make much of a difference in price? I want to put a loft in the back 14 feet of it with stairs going up, and in the future turn it into an apartment.

Both pictures you show will need excavating work. The first one strip all the topsoil of level site and then deal with the hill on the side so that water doesn't run into the building. The second one will need more work. Stumps & a bigger slope & hill.

Try Morton buildings.

yeah, I've talked to a few excavating people about the hill, and what all needs done. I haven't tried Morton's buildings yet, i'll have to look into that one, thanks

Before you start building it there, get all the legalities straightened out first. You don't want to get it build, have something happen to her and you lose it to Probate or Uncle Sam to pay for a nursing home.
