I have an existing 30 x 30 building that was once a corn crib in the 1950s.

The exterior is mostly cut oak planks some in bad shape. I've not had any luck finding anyone to reskin this building and I'm thinking of just doing it myself.

I have the skills just not the knowledge. Are there any good books or resources on doing the tin work on pole buildings?

I know there are different trim pieces that have to be used and I just need a guide so I can do it right the first time.

Just about all manufactured siding products have installation instructions and architectural .pdf's for copying to plans, etc. The details can be found there. However, additional education is always a good time investment.

Before diving too deep into this project, I would suggest taking a lot of measurements and finding out how square the walls are in every direction. Not sure how precise corn cribs were laid out in the 50s but would not be surprised to find a lot of variances. This can certainly be worked around, and you can probably correct some of the problems. It will probably take more time, some extra planning, and may dictate what materials and patterns you choose to use. What will be an interesting challenge of a project to a DIYer would be a time consuming, financial loss to a contractor trying to make a living. Most of the skills I've learned over the years have been the result of projects no one wanted to do and I probably couldn't afford to pay them if they did. Chip.

If you’re going to be re-doing the oak, you’ll need to pre-drill holes if you’re nailing. They could mail it back then because it was still green. Found that out myself.

may want to list your location (at least the state) by your icon to the left. Snow belt could affect the input you receive.

also a photo would be immensely useful.
