Just planning a 42x60 pole building in Northern Alberta Canada. It gets to be -40c here in winter. There is a lot of information on slab on grade insulation to protect from frost. Searching internet came up with nothing. I am going to have infloor heat and will insulate 2 inches under slab and around perimeter.
I am trying to figure out how I could also insulate down the sides below grade. To save on heating bills. Is it worth the hassle?
Should I just rent a trenching machine after building is up, and trench a two feet down around perimeter after the building is up?
I could dig by hand all the way around inside of screed board...(Difficult).
I could try and trench when they dig holes between post and drop insulation in?(get in contractors way).
Or easiest not worry about it and money saved in time and energy and insulation goes towards a little more cost of natural gas.
I welcome all ideas, thoughts pictures etc.
Thank-you
