I have a 47x36 Wick pole building. Trusses are 8ft oc with 2x8 top and bottom chords and 2x4 webs.
I contacted Wick about building a deck between the lower chords for light storage and was told the wood of the trusses is strong enough but the nail plates are the first thing to fail. They said when they build them for storage they screw/glue 1/2 osb over the truss plates to strengthen them, so that's what I did.
I don't recall what they said would be allowable for load so I will give them a call again but I was looking for an opinion on a support post.
The storage area would basically be from the front wall to the 2nd truss out, so 36x16. Due to the door configuration and lift placement I would have room for only one support post, 12ft away from the wall.
Any opinions on if this is necessary or even helpful considering it's only one post 1/3 of the span out?
