There is apparantly a US web site. The one you have is called a bench vise; mine is from another series. It says Rapid 6 on mine. Both are still made. The rotary bases appear to be sold separately for both styles. BISON. They make lathe chucks and machinist and drill press vises, too.

I'm a huge fan of Bison-Bial vises.
There is a difference between Rapid and Bison bench vises (same size), although they look the same. The Rapid has a slightly longer slide than the same size Bison. Also, the Rapid has a separate spindle nut, whereas the Bison spindle nut is cast into the body.

Is this the style of vise where you hold the handle and turn the vise to tighten???
Is that how guys in Georgia think vises are supposed to work?



I have one of these. That model is probably from late 50s or early 60s. It is extremely strong, but weighs a ton! I got it from my late Uncle who was a machinist by trade.
