"Polished" Concrete Floor Issue ?

Hello all,

I'm by no means a concrete expert, neither I believe is anyone in my area. I used a local lumber yard to build an economical 36x24x12 garage and specified a polished 6" deep concrete floor.

The contractors overall did a nice job for the total price. Of course there are small bits that I'm not totally satisfied with, but in perspective this is garage and not a centerpiece of existence.

They poured a foundation with rebar securing concrete block. The blocks were rebarred together and also filled with concrete. There was a vapor barrier put down and 6" of 3500 psi concrete poured with fiberglass added. Expansion / control joints were put in basically in 9' squares (sort of like metal rail thingys).

The floor was then sanded (polished / smoothed). The exposed fiberglass threads were burnt off and the floor sealed (?) coated three times - drying each time in between - with oil based concrete sealer, clear gloss (see photo).

Overall, like I said I'm fairly pleased, but it appears that they really didn't get the floor super clean between the coats of sealer. There is blown sand / dirt that you can see and feel embedded in the floor.

I'm not sure if this sand / dirt embedded it going to cause me problems down the road and figured folks on this board would have some opinions / ideas / experiences.

I'm guessing the only real corrective action would be to re-sand the floor and re-seal. I'm not sure this would work and might make matters worse (opinions ? ).

FYI, the garage is in SC and rarely sees freezing temperatures, mostly just heat during the summer. There is no insulation / cooling planned at this time.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks!

My concrete guy advised to not use fiber if you want a stained/sealled floor. He said it's nearly impossible to get rid of all the fiber sticking out.

Since you already have fiber, I'm not sure of the solution.

It'll be an oven in there with 0 insulation.

At least get some good ventilation to keep the hot air moved out.

I will probably insulate it eventually when I get budget for it. Right now the garage is in a shaded area and with a ridge vent, soffitt vents, and 8 window total. If its really hot, I just won't fiddle with the cars that day.
