polished items

i was watching a video of an air impact gun strip down and repair and they commented on the twin hammers being polished and my god were they, it got me thinking are they polished from the factory for extra ease of passing through the oil/grease or has someone taken the time to do this to try and make it better?

anyone with any experience of this?
