put down a thick layer of clear epoxy SAT. or ( 3.5) days ago of curing at 20 C , got my hands on some clear poly top coat now , says it goes on at 3 mils and it is 40% solids. how much do i really need to sand it, what grit and how scuffed does it really have to be? do i really need to take all gloss of floor? Thanks. also what do you think of this product?

100 grit sandpaper and/or 60 mesh screen will work just fine for you. You should de-gloss the entire floor where this will be applied.

What epoxy did you use? There should be a Data Sheet for it.

Would he have had to abrade if he had applied the clear coat sooner? If not, then how soon after applying your last epoxy coat should you apply your clear? Any difference if it's an epoxy or polyurethane clear?

Hey chiplee, There is a good chance he Wouldn't have to if he was inside the recoat window for that epoxy. After 24 hours, depending on temperature (warmer weather cures the epoxy faster) you almost always have to abrade your prior coat.

Yes big difference. Epoxies chaulk and yellow with UV exposure, polyurethane is UV stable and has other benefits. There was a discussion about this earlier today, Shea posted an article that explained it, give it a read!

Hope this helps clear it up a bit. The epoxy data sheet will have recoat and curing information on it. I would always highly suggest reading it 2-3 times before doing anything.
