About 25 years ago, I installled an epoxy (Stonhard) floor over a 20 year old bare concrete garage floor. At the time, since the floor was alread old, it had been stained with weldburns, brake fluid, trans fluid, motor oil, gear oil, paint...you name it.
The prep consisted of acid etching the exsiting floor, let dry, vacuum and then a coat of an epoxy primer and then the color topcoat, no chips. After 25 years, it's very dull in places and even after scrubbing, there are still some stains that I can't get off. Fortunately, there has never been one instance of lifting, peeling or any other type of failure (except where it's been chipped by an errant tool or auto part launched into an appropriate trajectory). I hoping that I can abrade this finish and apply a polyaspartic coating overtop of it.
What say ye?
