Polyethylene foam board insulation?

I have a source for PolyPlank insulation in 2" x 4' x 9' sheets that are seconds at a good price if the R value would be there. These would be used to insulate my exsisting pole type shop building.
The best I can come up with is that the material is expanded closd cell polyethylene EPE) mostly used for packing material.
Would the R value be similar to expanded polystyrene or?????

Thanks

Can't help you with your question, but you might want to contact this company:

Plywood King
584 Sherfield Rd Spencer, IN 47460‎
(812) 876-4341

They deal with a lot of surplus, and takeoff foam. Might be able to get isoboard, eps,ect at a comparable price to what you're paying.

I bought a load of ductboard from them for my ceiling. Great to work with and prices were good.

i got some of that kind of foam board insulation here free after the tornado came through it was 1/2" to 6" thick i tried to layer i so it was 6" and can spray foamed the edges and my roof holds snow and frost with it 85+ deg inside. i used the 1/2 to 1" stuff to insulate the floor. i got enough were i sold some and paid for 80 cans of spray foam i bought to seal it up tight and had enough left to buy lunch for the buddys that helped me haul it in.

Thanks, so it will work pretty well. I've found a source for some ISO board at a cheaper price but will keep this in mind if I need more insulation.
Did you use the same insulation in your ceiling?

Did you use the duct board as the ceiling covering or just as insulation?

I just used it as my ceiling. I think it's also rated at r5 or so. I'll eventually blow in cellulose on top of it, but It's already make a remarkable difference for seperating my garage from it's attic.

I think I paid $5 or $6 for each 4x10 sheet. New is like $25

I didn't want to drywall, or have the hassle of lifting all that plywood for a 3 car garage, and then having to paint it, ect. I just used drywall screws and washers to secure it. It's been up 2 years or so, looks fine.

I'll keep that in mind for my ceiling. It would work pretty good as it would be lite. My trusses are 8 ft on center (40' x 48') so I could make a grid out of lathe or strips attached to the bottom cord of the trusses to get a decent spacing to attach it to.
Thanks.

The 2 short edges of the boards are ship-lapped as well, so that should help hold it up over your spans. It's fairly bow resistant as it's got the foil facer. I don't think i'd trust it to span your whole 8 ft, you'd have to do some sort of lathe as you mentioned.

Might be worth it in your case to go with metal ceiling panels (like a barn) as I would think they would self support over your spans, and then insulate on top of them.
