Polyurea Garage Floor Project

Hey everyone - just wanted to share a little garage project I wrapped up last October. It’s been some months now, but I still remember how deep I got into the research rabbit hole trying to figure out which flooring to go with. Hopefully this helps someone else who's in the same boat.

After a lot of back and forth and sifting through opinions, I decided to go with Legacy Industrial’s NOHR-S polyurea. The main reason? I personally don’t love the super uniform look you get with epoxy. It looks great if that’s what you’re after, but I really wanted something that gave off more of a polished concrete vibe - something a bit more raw and organic - without spending a fortune, and still super durable.

I should mention that this was a new build, so I was working with fresh concrete. That definitely worked in my favor for getting a nice. Legacy was also great to work with - super helpful and responsive any time I had questions.

One of the things that really surprised me was how much character and color was brought out by the clear Polyurea in the concrete after everything was finished. It ended up having way more personality than I expected, which I love.

We’re not parking cars in the garage, so I can’t fully speak to long-term durability with vehicle traffic. But we’re planning to install a home gym in there soon, so I’ll try to circle back and update once it’s seen a bit more action. For now though, I’m really happy with how it turned out.

• Primer (wife helped)
• Paint (wife helped)
• Clean/scrub (lots of elbow grease..wife did not help)
• Etch (Legacy Industrial HD357 Concrete Etch)
• Polyurea (Legacy Industrial Nohr-S Polyurea Coating)
• Cabinets and Storage (NewAge Products)

I would say no different than the concrete before.

Thanks, I like the look but need the durability to park and wrench. I get the over investigation on finishes and processes.

So how does the etching process work? Rolled on or what? Then hosed out or left to dry?

I'm guessing by the tray that you roll on the polyurea?

You can add an anti-slip agent to it. Works wonders. IMHO, it's slick as **** when wet.

So how does the etching process work? Rolled on or what? Then hosed out or left to dry?

I'm guessing by the tray that you roll on the polyurea?

I used a pump sprayer bottle, waited for it to fizzle, and then scrubbed with a chemical brush before rinsing it away. This is a concentrated salt product, so you don't have to worry about leaks in your driveway like you would using acid etch.
