Pool pump low flow cut off

We will be away for 2 weeks later this summer. I am looking to install a low/no flow cut off for the 240 volt pool pump for our in ground pool. The main issue is the timing for the pump to operate long enough (usually < minute) to build normal operating pressure. I assume I will need a relay and housing for all of this. I have a general idea of how I’d like it to work but looking for suggestions. Thoughts?

Use an on-delay timer to bypass the pressure switch or flow switch. The time delay is user selectable.

Idec and ATC are two mfr suggestions.

Thanks for the delay timer information. That helps with the delay issue.

The pool is 10 feet deep and about 40 feet from the pump so not sure the sump pump float would be feasible.

Thanks again for the suggestions.

When I leave for an extended time I dump in more chlorine and put on the tarp cover. It doesn’t have to be as secure as for the winter and if something does happen then I fix it when I return. I prefer this to replacing a pool pump.

I am giving this real consideration. Thanks….

Apart from this issue, do you balance the pool chemicals, dumping in liquid chlorine? We re-did our in-ground pool this past year and added a chlorine generator. That's a great addition, no more schlepping 2-1/2 gallon containers back and forth to the store. It works perfectly. The pool is 15' x 27' x ~8'. We have a 3 HP Pentair Intelliflow pump, programmable for 8 speeds/times, we use two. We also added a heat pump, and in the winter (FL) we keep the pool @ 88 degrees F. The spa can be heated separately and will go to 104 degrees F but we've never used it above 94 degrees F. Yes, it has multiple jets and an aerator 240V. The family dog goes crazy when the aerator is on, biting the moving columns of water/air. She also likes the spillway from the spa into the pool.

I agree that super-chlorinating/shocking the pool and leaving the pump off may be the easiest way to do it. With cameras and wi-fi linking to the pool pump, we can control the pump from anywhere, and see the results.
