I placed an order at cripedistributing (not through their ebay site).
Got a confirmation email for the order. Few days later was told that one item was not in stock, despite more than 19 available when I placed the order.

There was no apology for being OOS. Lady was eager to cancel the entire order altogether. I asked for free shipping which was declined. She said I can get you something else for the same price. Well yeah, no ****.

I ended up just canceling the entire order.
It was too bad cuz they have good prices.

sorry just needed some place to vent

This same thing happened to me, they had 32 "in stock" at the time of purchase I got a confirmation, and the day before I was supposed to receive it in the mail, I got a call saying they are out of stock.

I will never order from them again!

Thanks for chiming in with your recent experiences with cripe. I had been thinking of picking up a couple of items from them b/c of their crazy low prices, but now I'm somewhat hesitant.

I should add, like your experience, I got the call very close to the time I was supposed to RECEIVE the package.
Keep in mind all of this happened close to the holidays. They posted on their site that no orders would be shipped until after Jan 4, so I expected delays.

I've had two EXCELLENT experiences from Cripe. Great shipping and service on two 100+ dollar orders. They actually have sent me an extra bit holder each time.
I'm VERY happy with them, and continue to look for stuff....of course, YMMV.

I've ordered a lot of stuff from Cripe, multiple times, and have never had an issue.
I've always ordered from the web site

I've ordered from them a bunch of times, but have my driver pick them up when in Boise, remember they are selling overruns/overstock items(think big lots for tools) their inventory is huge on some things and others not so much. I've been in one of their many warehouses, & they are packed to the gills with inventory. I usually call and have them call me if there's anything that's not in stock(sometimes they do & sometimes they're too busy) If there's anything you'd like I can see about getting it,then passing it on if you'd rather not deal directly w/them. I usually ship things postal flat rate boxes

I work at a place like Cripe. You need to keep in mind that this is not a regular store that can re-order when their supply gets low. They buy what they can and when it's gone, it's gone. The website quantities are not always correct, especially when the quantity is low. It is not uncommon for someone to call and order 100 of a single item, and then you place your order online and it shows some available but it is actually sold out.
Judging by their website, they are a relatively small business and as such people have to wear many hats. Sometimes things slip through the cracks, and they don't call to tell you that one item is gone from your order until they are finally ready to ship.
The best thing you can do is express your concerns via email, or better yet, a real, actual letter. Then they may try to put procedures in place so that it doesn't happen again.

Major makes some good points.

I had the same thing happen to me with Cripe on my first order, but it was easily resolved. The lady called to tell me they were out of the 6" ALLEN (USA) slip joints that I ordered, and offered to replace them with a pair of KD (USA) 6" slip joints. They were both made by Danaher, probably exactly the same other than the grip colors. So yeah, whatever. The lady was very nice to speak with. This ordeal did delay my shipment by a day, but I was in no hurry to get it. If I were in a hurry for a tool, I wouldn't have ordered it online.

I like Cripe very much, it is obviously a small business that provides a lot of savings to it's customers, so cut em' some damn slack. I'm not sure what you missed out on, or why feel screwed over, but canceling your order over an honest mistake and demanding something for nothing seems foolish and unreasonable.

I just ordered a few wrenches from Cripe today. This was my first order with them. The lady I talked to was very nice on the phone and I received my shipping confirmation order via email later this afternoon. We'll see what happens. I should receive the wrenches next week. I'll let you know how it goes.

FWIW - I have ordered a couple dozen things from them - never had any problems.

Just got my most recent order last week - 4 days after ordering - same as always - good product, cheap prices, fast shipping.

I just wanted to report back that I did receive the wrenches last week without any big problems. They came in a sturdy, well sealed, shipping box, but I will say that the internal packaging wasn't really great. The wrenches were loose in the bottom of the box with some brown packaging paper stuffed in on top of them to sort of keep them from clanking into each other and really bouncing around. The paper really wasn't effective. The wrenches WERE bouncing around and clanking into each other. I would have liked to have had the wrenches wrapped up a little better. There was no damage to any of them and they're fine for use.

I would probably buy from Cripe again because the price was VERY right, they delivered my order on time, and the shipping costs were reasonable. I would probably reconsider ordering anything too fragile from Cripe because I was less than impressed with the overall packaging of my item. Sockets, wrenches, etc. are probably fine if the price is right.

I ordered a set of tools from cripe, through their ebay store and 3 weeks later they called me to extort me for more shipping on the product. This mind you after I had paid for the shipping, and it was calculated based on weight and destination of package. They more than doubled my shipping quote. I then received a crushed, over sized box with no packing material. Just the item, banging around.

So you ended up paying more shipping?

I would never live in Hawaii cuz of the outrageous shipping. They got nice beaches and weather and hot babes but that's about it.

I think their shipping cost is slightly excessive- $11 for a 3 piece ratchet set? I can get a flat rate box for five bucks...

That being said, even with a higher shipping price- I still can't come anywhere near finding anyone who can beat the price.

Speaking of which, my NAPA front end kit came in from Cripe and I absolutely love it. It took about a week to get here, but it's a great set and at $75 (with shipping) it was an absolute steal.

Yesterday I received my second order from Cripe. Once again I bought a few wrenches. The service was friendly, the shipping was pretty fast, and the price was definitely right. The packaging was adequate, and a little better than my first experience (see above), but not great. For durable items, like wrenches, Cripe's packaging will pass the test with an "average at best" grade. I'd be careful about ordering anything from them that might require secure, damage proof, packaging. As for their prices, I'd give them a high score!!
