I poured my slab about 3 years ago to give my boy's and I some where to work on our cars. We didn't want the neighbors complaining about us working on projects in front of the house. As you can see, it got quite the work out...lol. The pad is 20x25.

I bought the shop from Coast To Coast. Don't have a lot of good stuff to say about them. I kinda just want this done and over with. Then I will probably not recommend them to anyone...lol. Lets just say, their customer service is not the best. I was scheduled for install today at 8:00AM. They got here at 3:00PM. My morning off from work ended up being all day off.

Two guy's came to install it. They said the 3rd guy quit on them yesterday right in the middle of a job. The contractor didn't have many good things to say about Coast To Coast either. Said mine would probably be his last job. I told him, well you better make it your best job ever...lol.

The shop is a 20x26 (roof size) 7ft legs and two 8x7 doors, a man door and one window. It's also a vertical roof. They are still outside working on it. They said they probably will not finish until tomorrow morning. Will update once more progress is made.

Oh yeah, price - $5300.00 out the door. Not bad. :dunno:

I think I'm going to like that. good stuff!

Thanks Zeke. I know it's not a mega-dollars garage. But it's something that will keep us out of the sun and give our projects some cover. The installers worked last night until 9pm. This thing takes a lot more re-enforcment than I imagined. They will be back today to install the roll up doors and finish the roof and walls as well as trim. Should look like this when it's done.

this has peaked my interest. be sure to post more about it as it gets finished up. i'll need a small mustang garage when i move to another house soon. this may be the low cost ticket as unless we get a house with a detached garage, i'll be building.

It will be nice to have that slab covered up and be able to store your tools etc there. I had a carport very similar to that installed at my inlaws house 10 years ago to store a couple of cars when we moved overseas. It was done by Carlolina Carports? Still doing well and my father in laws keeps his tractor and boat in there now.

Apologize for no recent updates guy's. But I ran into a problem with a neighbor. Now get this...I pulled my permit like I was told by my neighbor who works for the city. On Thursday, the code inspector guy shows up and tells the workers to stop building. I was home for lunch so I got to talk to him. Said a neighbor, not in my neighborhood, but three neighborhoods over has a problem with me putting up a steel garage. Said it's going to lower his homes value? So we are supposed to meet tomorrow at city hall. Luckily, my neighbor is pretty high up in the city ranks and he said not to worry. He said it's just a formality and they will send this dude packing. Said if he wants to take it further he will have to sue me and prove that my garage is directly affecting his property. So for now, here my garage sits. It's 3/4's of the way up already. Can you all believe this ****. My 'ole girl is loving the shop too. Nothing like keeping her out direct sunlite.

Thats BS about the 3 neighbor hood away guy say a steel building is going to lower his home value. Should raise it if anything. Looks good though, will be really nice!

What is that style called. I have been asking about Eagle Carports reliability and getting no responses. Lack of intrest has gotten me looking for different manufacturers. I want to build a building like this but larger but need to get info on long term quality of this style. Is it a pole barn, shop, steel building or what? How do you like it so far?

That is a nice building. I find my big shop keeps me busy cleaning and building more than the stuff I like to do.

I can't believe someone would complain. I never got a permit for my 42'x60'x16' and when a councillor showed up to ask about it I told him to bring one over if he wanted but the building was going up as planned. Come to think of it now I never got one for the 24'x24' addition either.

Update: Well, it all went down the tubes. Code enforcement claims I didn't tell them I was building a garage. They said my permit was for a storage shed only. Which would not be hard wired for electricity. That will require another permit but not before turning in engineering plans which have to be approved by the city. In other words they wanted to treat it like I was making an addition to my home. Multiple meetings and wasted time ended with me selling the garage to a friend. Fortunately the company I bought my unit from removed it and installed it at the new location at no extra charge.

So I am right back where I started. Plans now are to start over from the beginning. Going to apply for a new permit soon. I will be turning in engineering plans from the builder. And we will see where it goes from there. America, land of the free. Where you have the right to pay your taxes, buy a home, but don't you dare try to make any changes. Will update as soon as we start again. I'm determined to get this done or sell the house and buy one with a garage already built.

That's why I love central Indiana. With the exception of a few towns, for the most part, in my county, if you own it, you can do whatever you want. No permits, inspections, etc. Except for installing a septic system.

***** a guy can't do anything on his own property with out the approval of the government, Anyway those are nice buildings. Never seen one built that extravagant, the ones around here are usually used as car ports with just a roof, a few with 3 sides. One of the companies we rent compressors to put these over our units. Might want to make sure it is tied down very well, they dont like high winds.

Update: Well, it all went down the tubes

Wow, that *****!

So did they make you take it down? Or tell you that they'd never approve it, or something? -- I'm wondering why you decided to take it down vs. just call it storage for now, and get the approvals for electric/etc later? I assume they already had approved the size and rough configuration of the building.

I can't stand all the hoops that need to be jumped through for "abutters". In my town we have a 300' abutters rule, which states that you must inform all of them of certain types of construction, and they can file a complaint which will hold up the process. When I replaced my deck I had to stay within 20% of the existing square footage or otherwise I'd have to send out notice to all abutters first... In my case that's about 30 different homes, some of which are multiple streets away and would take about a mile to drive to due to the configuration of the roads... ridiculous rules. Abutters should be immediate neighbors only at best

**UPDATE**

Can't believe it's been about a year and a half since my last update. My plan has so far worked out. I waited until some of the town administration changed, minds faded and gave my garage another try. This time, I went and asked for a permit for a 20x25 Carport / Patio - The city didn't even budge. They just handed me the permit and I was on my way. But this time I am taking my time and doing it in two stages. I had the installers put it up for me two weeks ago. I am going to give it until the end of January to have them come back and install the roll up doors, the man door and a window. Then I will have an electrician come in and wire up the lights and outlets. So far so good though. No complaints from anyone in my neighborhood. Code enforcement was out today tagging weedy lots. Didn't even look at my place. Wish me luck. Will post up an update when the it's closed up. :rocker:

What happened to the other building? Did you have to take it down again?

Is this from the same company?

Yup, old code enforcement guy made me take it down. Lost my $500 deposit on it. Since my last attempt the city has a whole new administration and they seem to be tax payer friendly. This new building is from another company. Excellent service, super fast installs. They showed up at 8:00AM and were gone by 3:00PM, same day. They didn't even stop for lunch. This new building is also a foot taller than the old one and I had them insulate the roof.

Who's building and how much more than the last one?

I'm still looking for a decent deal on a building too.....

I got the building from these guy's. They had a booth setup at a big car show in town. And the salesman does a good job of passing out flyers and business cards at all the local Saturday night cruise in's.

http://www.southtexascarports.com

Price on this new building with taller legs and insulation was $4568 out the door. Includes delivery and installation. Closing it up with two 8x7 rollup doors, a man door and a window will run me about $1100 more. I'm really growing antsy to get it all done. Might pay them a visit and have them finish it all this weekend.
