Hi guys. Been on here a while and thought I'd show you my garage project.

It's a 50s block building. Car and a half. I think I may add on to it in the future. It's a little cramped trying to work on cars in there.

It had power to it when we bought the house but I quickly exceeded the 20A so I added in a sub panel.

A few inside shots. It's mess at the moment but oh well.

I've got my jeep tore apart in there at the moment with an axle swap

cool space man, hopefully some day you'll be able to add on as you mentioned and make it perfect for you. I'm getting ready to build a shed of some sort, need more space for the projects to branch out, and of course more storage

Man I'm envious of you guys that live in the country. That garage has excellent "bones". Love the block. What are your plans for paint (if any), finishing touches, cabinets, overhead storage, etc?

My little 18'x18' on a suburban 50x100 lot has me aching every time I see the green fields around some of your garages.

I have 6 acres, my shop is 24X24. Larger than many, smaller than many. Don't let Bigger Better Barn Syndrome affect you. Size matters, but I can meet my needs with what I can afford. If I had a 30X40 or whatever, much of the space would end up storing stuff I don't need, or have no use for, just wasted space and money. My shop is larger than our first apartment, and larger than anything my Father ever had. What I do with the space is on me. I am having fun.

Enjoy the space, make it your own. Trust me, having a tiny garage is a whole lot better than having to fix your car in your driveway.
Especially when is cold and wet outside !
I know guys that get more stuff done in a 10 x 20 shed, then some i know with a barn .
Hell i used to work on mopeds in my old apartment on the 2nd floor, full resto projects, spraypainting in the shower, engine overhaul on the coffee table.
Ever try lugging a 130 kilo bike up a flight of steep carpeted stairs ? or back down after you just fully restored it ?

Your garage is pretty big for dutch standards, i'd love to have a space like that.
It also has a lot of character, i like it a lot.
Some good storage solutions, bit of paint here and there, and i think an old garage/service station sign on the front outside would look really good.
Then again, maybe i just like old stuff
I think a lean to addition would look nice, and give you a lot of storage.

This year i'm building my first ever garage, a monster 12 x 26 , and i can't wait to be out of the snow, rain, sleet, wind, etc
First project in once its finished ? my 1960's 6 x 18 feet side tipping trailer wil get a full resto. 3 feet left on either side, but at least i will be warm and dry.

The plan if I did add on to it would be to add on in length so I could get a longer vehicle in there if possible. It will stay like this for a while. I am greatful for this garage.

A little background on myself. I turn wrenches for a living. Its been my passion for years. I work at an independant garage and love every minute of it. Im the son of a Diesel tech who raised 8 kids. We did all our own work outside one a concrete slab. Most work was done in the summer months with a few gotta get it done in the winters. It sucked. Dad passed 4 years ago in March. I miss him everyday. He was a good man and forgot more than Ill ever know about mechanics.

When my wife and I were house hunting my only requests were in the country and had to have a garage. We ended up with an old farmhouse built in 1890. House sits on about 2 acres with the block building that I use for a garage an old machine shed out back a shed that was once a shower house that has been added onto 4 times (you can see part of it in the second picture I posted) and an outhouse built by the Civilian Conservation Corps many years ago.
I love it out here.

My plans for the garage. Im going to paint the inside. Mainly because it wicks moisure real bad. Ive been using masonry paint on it a little at a time. to paint sections of it. I need to get back on that but other projects have pulled me away. Ive got some stuff Ive been hording at my Moms that I need to get down here to oragnize my stuff. Ive also got a bunch of stuff my dad horded too.

Ill post pictures as I go to keep you updated.

Here's how it looks at the moment with the jeep in here and two axles. What I thought would be a simple Sunday afternoon swap turned into a roadblock when the ubolts were 1/2 inch narrower on my old axle than the new. I had backed in the jeep halfway to swap and go but ended up jacking the rear up putting it in 4wd and backing it into the garage. Wifey was not amused.

I had to put in a washer up at Moms last night so I grabbed a vice that my dad had. I believe it was my grandpas. Anyone have any info on it?

It's missing the jaws and the handle is bent but it's a good ol American made craftsman. I'm going to do a resto on it. I saw hints of red paint in the bolt holes not sure if it the correct color or not.

Here's my jack. I have many fond memories of my dad and this jack. We have done countless Trans jobs and work with this jack.

Keep plugging away. I know for me, I always have to many projects going at one time. This causes clutter and chaos. With small spaces you have to continually clean and put thing in their place or you will go mad. Good luck.

I did some searching and found that website. They only have the jaws instock now and they are just replacements that will work. Ill have to do some fabbing to make something work. Ill get started on it sometime.

Thanks for all the replys. I got the jeep out of the garage last night and started cleaning again for the next project. I probably should finish the other ones I have started but they arent that important just take up space. Ive got an engine tore apart for my jeep that is lower miles than the one I currently have. It needs cleaned up and stuck back together. The list goes on and on.

I need to start finding heating solutions for this winter. Last winter I had a couple space heaters but it wasnt enough and that really maxed out 20A breaker. I was planning on puting in a woodstove that is currently under the cherry picker in the corner. If you look closesly you can see parts of it under all the junk. My only problems with a woodstove were insurance and where to put it. Apparently insurance is very finicky on woodstoves.

My next plan was to try and find an electric furnace from a trailer and mount it in the rafters with a couple ducts pointing down. Im going to start cruising CL trying to find one.

Since you already have many folks a bit envious of your space, I'm going to state my envy of your trench(!).

If I dug a trench that long, it would meander around subterranean unmovables, and I would have a pile of rocks at least as big as the pile of soil.

Great little space. Keep it simple and it your own. The vise you should do a electrolysis on to get all the rust off and yes red would be the correct color but i would do something that would hold up well like hammered paint.

I too am envious of that soil. The best thing we grow around here is shale.

Great garage - I love the character - the visible underside of the roof, weathered wood, dirty slab...

Its really sandy out here. Originally this was the farm house to a couple hundred acre farm. It was in the family for many years. There were two sisters who were farming it up until about 15 years ago. When they got too old they auctioned off the house and two acres. Sold all the machinery and kept about 100 acres to rent out. They then moved into a nursing home. Ive heard from other farmers in the area that the Auction was really cool. They had all the machinery still from the horse and buggy days. The last of the farm that completly surrounds me went up for auction at the end of last year the year and the Two ladies passed away a couple months back. Wish I would have been able to talk to them.

Ive found some old bottles in the ground and bricks and parts of mason jars. The dog dug up an old Champ 1Com spark plug thats pretty cool.

I only hit one old barn footer digging that trench. The rest of it went very smoothly. Except were I burried the trencher in the trench.

As i'm about to start digging the footers for my shed, i really wish i had soil like yours.
I Could just dig it by hand, unfortunally i live on greasy sea clay.
This stuf is almost turqouise at a foot deep, and sticks to your spade/ shovel like glue. Making it really hard to dig a trench by hand.
Guess its time to rent a digger again.....

Newest edition to the shop. Saved it from the scrap yard. Motor turns freely and the compressor sounds ok. Still had air in the tank. Had been sitting outside for 15+ years.

I've done a little bit of work in the garage here lately. Wired my lights to a switch and added a few sockets on the bench.

Been trying to keep the grass cut and doing yard work.
