I have a 2ft. square area in my trailer/summer home that is coming down.Need advise as how to repair or cover, skin, the ceiling. It is in bathroom which is aprox. 4 x 12. Thank You in advance.
If you do a knock down finish there’s not usually any sanding needed. It’s surprisingly easy to wet the popcorn with water using a hand sprayer and then scrape it off with a spud. If you’re not too ham-handed, it’ll be smooth enough for just a little sanding maybe a few small repairs prime and paint. I’d give it a couple of coats of good primer and a couple of coats of finish. It’ll last a while even in humidity.
Sounds like yours was painted a few times. When in its natural state, it comes off pretty easily. Type of paint matters too, some paints don’t seem to harden it, but others get absorbed and turn it into something similar to adamantium.lolI cleaned mine with a spray bottle with a little dish soap then scrubbed and rinsed, mind you, mine was like concrete so the soaking/ scraping method did nothing.
Then i got a texture hopper and blasted the whole surface, waited till it had dried to a malleable texture then got a big wide drywall knife just smoothed it over.
I started from the corners then worked my way out, took my time to get it as smooth as poss , this it where the dryer malleable texture comes in.
The just sanded it flat using a flash light along the surface to show any shadows which i highlighted with colored chalk .
Kept going till it was Pimp wall.
It was actually fun.
