I unplugged my scissor lift from the charger and I heard this loud pop and saw a yellow flame. Anyone know what happened? The plug is a bit stiff so it takes a little bit of wiggling to unplug it. I'm thinking maybe I put my finger in the prong accidently, but I didn't feel a shock or anything. I thought I shorted out the whole lift. Turned out one it popped the breaker and two I didn't have the primary power switch turned on. lol That was scary.

If you unplugged it under electrical load you can draw an arc flash.

Should be small for ~20A * 120vac but can get big enough to melt you down under higher kVA ratings.

I don't think it was under load. It was fully charged, so it should have tapered off the charging percentage. I should install a different plug that's not so stiff.

Did you look at the wires on the outlet? Perhaps one is loose. Been there, done that.

i have some equipment with the plugs recessed on them for charging, when i plug in i can hear electricity, the plug is wearing out and needs to be replaced. Double check yours.

I'd bet the receptacle is shot from people having to wiggle it around to get things un-plugged, or if it's a metal box you might have wiggled a side screw in to the side of the box.

Sounds like you created a short or a wire became disconnected inside the plug (if it is not a molded plug).

Is this an arc fault breaker?

By bet is the charger was still drawing a good amount of current, when you pulled it under load you got and arc flash.
