Hundreds, and that is not a typo, hundreds of churches across France are being vandalized and set on fire in the last 5 years. Even if you are not religious or catholic its a crime to the art and craftsmanship that went into those churches. Maybe it was just an electrical spark but just because they haven't found a definite clue doesn't mean it wasn't arson or even that the cigarette was from an arsonist.
