Hi all,

looking to coat my new 1200 sq ft garage. given the size, the coating will be quite an expenditure, but i want it done right.

after research, it seems like the por 15 is the best way to go for my needs.

my question is what does the deluxe kit give you as an advantage over the basic?
i am not interested in the flakes and won't use them anyway (easier to find bolts, nuts, etc).
Is it that the clear coat makes it more shiny, thus more attractive, or is there a functional advantage?? more durable??? with the extra coats????

i want it to look good, but the deluxe is almost twice the price, is this for flakes and shine alone?
does the basic kit look like dull grey paint with no sheen??

i would be interested in hearing from those who used the basic kit and or the deluxe to hear your feedback??

Is it worth the extra 1k for the deluxe? what am i getting for my $$??
any thoughs greatly appreciated!!!

I can't answer all your questions, but I just finished my floor with the POR-15, see the main POR-15 thread, last page. The floor without the clear coat is quite glossy, please look at my picture page (link in my signature line) and note the 1st coat of POR-15, especially seeing how your not using chips, you may very well fore go the clear coat. I used it to protect the chips I laid down and to give the floor another layer of protection.

I purchased the deluxe 3.5 kit and had quite a few things left over that I'm hoping to return (3 cans of cleaner, 3 canisters of paint chips (I used my own instead of POR-15s), 3 canisters of aggregate), but only had 1/2 of a gallon of extra floor covering and 1/2 a canister of cross-link acclerant. I bought the deluxe kit because I wanted to ensure I had EVERYTHING I needed. I HATE getting into a project just to stop everything to run out and purchase something...that drives me nutz.

If I had to do it all over again, I'd have purchased the basic 3.5 kit.

YMMV

HI,

Lets see if this will help???????

OK the basic kit gives you a coating built to last and protects from grease and oil stains ( recommended to clean any spill or drips as they occur) and
protects from HOT tire peel and will not chip or crack.

The Deluxe kit offers the same protection plus added durability with more coats and a high gloss finish, easy to repair.

What type of garage are you wanting to end up with? If you want a basic looking garage with a durable coating built to last or if you are wanting to make it look "showroom floor quality" with added durability.

I have the basic kit and am very happy with it. For me, the addition of chips and clear were not worth nearly twice the price. My $.02.

KnightFire, what color chips do you have left over. I just ordered the deluxe kit for a 1.5 garage ( my garage is just under 400 sf) and from what I have heard the chips supplied with the kit will produce a light coat. I am looking for a little thicker flake coat. I have the black flakes, what do you have left over?

Correct...after I purchased the kit, I found a website that sold custom color chips...any color you want. I bought a 10lb bag of those (they only come in 10lb bags or variations there of) so I didn't use any of the POR-15 chips.
