First post here-- but i just wanted to make sure I did post. I relied so heavily on this board and many other boards to make my decision on what to do.

I've tried almost everything in the past with this and other homes: nothing, painting, epoxy, VCT-- all them ended up in problems, so I decided to hit the homerun ball here and just go for the one I had always wanted. Porcelain tile. Using others thoughts and write-ups on this board, I knew i had to try. Here are the results. 600 sq ft of PEI 5 rating porcelain tile. Tile was bought on clearance at around $500 for all you see here plus a couple of extras. Was going to lay the tile by hand, but found some 'local' help that was willing to lay it at $1.90 a sqft. They spent 4 days overall: laying the tile with heavy duty thinset- leveling the garage floor as they went along. Grout, painting, and sealing came next. I waited 5 days to put the Z06 back in garage from the time those tiles were laid. The thinset is tough-- feels like a solid rock. Vette moved easily. One thing I did note that is so nice to have is the threshold has a metal trim piece- avoids having the leading tile caught by tires.

I'll try to update this post or others as i move along and find out about up keep, cleaning, tire marks etc. I will also be installing a free standing four post lift-- going to see if the tile can hold up to it, or if I need to cut the tile out around the legs. I will be doing some mechanical work on the car, but this garage will mostly be for cleaning and regular maintence like brakes, headers, plugs, exhaust, oil changes etc...So don't plan on dropping an engine block on the tile, maybe more like hammer or wrench or two. We'll see how it holds up.

Thought I would share so that I can help the next guy like me that is trying to decide.

Looks great. Better seal it good and more than once or it will get dirty quick.

Wow, very impressive. Would you mind showing the threshold up close and give a bit more detail?

Looks awesome! I'm really tempted to do porcelain, but I'm not sure how well it will stand up to the subzero temperatures up here.

I've been going back and forth trying to decide between epoxy and tile, and you just swayed me back to tile again.

Already done. But I expect this will be the cleanest it will EVER be.

Looks great ......... but where do you keep all of the OTHER stuff normal in a garage ....?
Lol. Yeah, its a little empty right now. I'll move the rest of the stuff back in today. However, I dont have much. All of my tools fit in a large Husky rolling tool cart. And besides a floor jack, a trash can and kids' bicycles, there's not much more. I HATE cluttering up a garage. Wife says i have a problem because I'm a garage neat freak. I dont like junk in garages. I like super clean- focus on the cars. I keep all the **** in our walk-in attic.

Looks great, but I'd be afraid it would be terribly slippery as soon as any grease/oil/water got on them.
Yep. Gonna happen. But, I'm coming from epoxy with no flakes, so this is going down a degree in slipperyness.

Glazed bathroom tiles get slippery. These kind of tiles don't. At least, not slippery like epoxy or VCT get.

My tiles are ceramic, which isn't as good as porcelain. Yours should hold up great, so long as there aren't air pockets in the thinset.

I assume the sealing talk is about the grout, not the tiles. I'm lazy, so I went with darker grout and left it unsealed. Dirty oil and other stuff wipes right up. Heck, dried paint comes off the stuff with just a little acetone and a paper towel.

The border and 45° angle is a very nice touch.

Threshold picture-- trim piece. Keeps the tile from taking the brunt of the tires.

I need to finish my floor - 24 x 28. I was thinking about paint or expoxy and now I'm thinking tile. I know that Jack said he has dropped stuff on his ceramic and it held up. I need to read more on this board and make a decision.
