Porcelain tile over epoxy?

Hi all - long time lurker, first time poster.

My old epoxy garage floor is getting ugly. I'm debating what to do - install one of the brands of tiles or go straight to porcelain? I've done a good amount of tile so the time and work investment don't bother me. My current (17 year old) garage floor is otherwise in good shape.

Can I put the porcelain tile directly over the old epoxy or do I have to grind everything down to bare concrete? I have a 21 x 30 garage.

porcelain + epoxy in title only. There are other threads that would not be captured in this search but the answer is always the same. Everyone says grind but some have tiled right over epoxy. And we have not yet seen someone say their garage floor failed as a result (but certainly sounds possible based on pros)

You should remove the epoxy as if it is flaking off and not sticking good your tile would be stuck to the failing surface. Best to start with a new surface.
